Wonderful to see so many members attend the RICS 2024 AGM in person and online last Thursday, demonstrating productive engagement with RICS along with their commitment to the profession. It was a pleasure to be joined by my colleagues Liz Peace, Tina Paillet, FRICS, Nigel Clarke, Sybil Taunton and Annabel Huffer BSc (Hons) MRICS, vice chair of RICS Matrics Hampshire and IOW, who gave such a superb account of this thriving professional community and its achievements in recent months. While we will never stop striving to improve the experience we provide for members, it was a great opportunity to demonstrate the progress we’ve made so far on our transformation journey.

What is a fully qualified member of RICS? I saw a short video posted by RICS today in which one of the participants referred to fully qualified members in the firm but as I understandf it there are currently two levels of membership, Associate (AssocRICS) or chartered (MRICS/FRICS). Are both considered fully qualified members? In 2009 the then RICS Chief Executive, Louis Armstrong stated: “This new entry-level qualification is an opportunity for many who would like a career in the property sector but have previously been denied access to a professional qualification due to a lack of academic qualifications. “For the first time, they will have an opportunity to work towards attaining chartered status.” It seems that RICS, when launching AssocRICS intended for it to be a membership level below that of chartered status and a means by which those without the necessary professional qualifications could progress to attain chartered status. If AssocRICS is in fact considered “fully qualified” then what is MRICS/FRICS. Is it overqualified, more than qualified, fully qualified Plus? Can RICS clarify?

Great to be part of the newly formed RICS Commercial Property Professional Group Panel (PGP) today. The PGPs have been established to bridge the gap between RICS staff team and professional members. The remit is broad and deep and it was energising to be part of discussions at our kick off meeting this morning. Thanks to everyone I met today. I look forward to continuing these discussions as we develop our plan. Roddy Houston, Jonathan Theobald, Nella Pang MRICS, Maria Augusta Wiedner, MRICS, CFA

I recently had the incredible opportunity to participate in an enlightening "Ask an Assessor" session ROAR RICSSBE. This session proved to be a game-changer for anyone looking to navigate the path towards achieving MRICS. The session provided a unique platform to interact with Deben Moza, FRICS, MCA & Ar. Amol Sudam Shimpi MRICS renowned assessors who generously shared their knowledge and insights. It was a golden opportunity to gain firsthand perspectives, valuable tips, and personalized advice on how to chart a successful course in the MRICS journey. From understanding the assessment process to getting tips on presenting a compelling case, every aspect was covered with utmost clarity. The experience shared by these industry stalwarts was not only insightful but also immensely motivating for anyone aiming to attain MRICS accreditation. If you're contemplating or already on the path toward MRICS, I highly recommend participating in future "Ask an Assessor" sessions. The depth of understanding gained and the networking opportunities are unparalleled. A heartfelt thank you Archana Dutt for arranging the session! Your guidance has undoubtedly paved the way for a more informed and confident journey towards MRICS. #mrics #professionaldevelopment #careergrowthopportunities #networkingevent #rics #buildingconnections #ricsapc #ricsmatrics

Head of Investment Finance - L&G. Property & investment finance YouTuber. Retired RICS Chartered Surveyor. University Lecturer. PropTech advocate.
Has the number of RICS surveyors in the UK decreased? For some reason, I get the feeling Covid and other recent factors (#professionalindemnityinsurance rip off) saw a number of members leave the profession in higher than normal numbers in the last few years. Is there any published data on this from HQ? Marion Ellis... not picking on you but would you happen to know anything about this? I'm doing a talk on RICS at work and it would be useful to know. #rics #ricsuk #ricsmembership
