It's been a whole year since I joined The John Roberts Company's Estimating Team, and it's worth celebrating! Big shoutout to my awesome coworkers for being so supportive—I feel really lucky to be part of this team. Reflecting on the past year, here are the top three things that stuck with me: 1. Pay attention to the details, especially in print. Even the small stuff can totally change how you estimate a job. 2. Your team is everything. I work with some really talented estimators, and they motivate me to be better every day. 3. Always ask why. If you want to really learn something, make sure you understand why it's happening.

Teammate VS Employee- Does it even matter? It does. And I'll tell you why- At Nucor we refer to everyone who works here as a teammate because well, we mean it. Each individual is a CRITICAL and VALUED part of our team. We win (and lose) together, and we all have each other's backs. I know it's not advisable to refer to a work "family", but this is one of the most tightly knit teams I've ever been a part of. But it's more than that! Nucor is founded on entrepreneurship, ownership, and autonomy. Teammates are more empowered here than what "employee" indicates. Not only are you encouraged to share ideas, but you will also have the chance to put them into practice, work through any "do betters", and work collaboratively to bring innovation to fruition. As a teammate, you own your role and any decisions that fall within it. This isn't a team where you have 4 different layers of red tape to test out a new idea. And you might be surprised to know that we haven't had any kind of upheaval or rogue missions yet- because this is also a team of trust. We just have really great people who do the right thing with integrity, simply because it's the right thing. So when you catch me saying employee out of habit, feel free to correct me. Employees?
