Menopause is neither an #illness nor a state of being well; it is a natural physiological phenomenon of ageing transition for women from reproductive to non reproductive state. If a #woman not menstruating for 12 months mean she has attained menopause. During the time of #Menopause, there will be a decreased biological and physiological activity which leads to Psychological disturbances. Menopause management starts with understanding the #sufferings. Because many people seeking treatment for their signs and symptoms like #Insomnia, weight gain, irregular periods, #palpitation etc.. The Guardian published a very interesting article last week about a study carried out on the effects of menopause on our brains. Three main takeaways are: 1. There appears to be a link between increased hot flushes and Alzheimer’s (but it’s by no means conclusive that hot flushes = Alzheimer’s) 2. Women’s ability to learn and remember declines during menopause (apparently bringing us to the level of most males) 3. Many of the brain changes we experience are temporary and are down to the brain recalibrating and compensating through increased energy production and blood flow. The increase in and announcement of these studies is wonderful because it is finally a sign that the effects of menopause on women are being taken seriously. Here is is: “Recognition that menopause, for most women, is a natural biological event, does not exempt the use of interventions to alleviate symptoms. Optimizing health at menopause is the gateway to healthy aging for women.” There is a lot of confusion in the menopause space, but there doesn’t have to be. Recently a team of international experts led bySusan Davis of Monash University has called for a new definition of menopause, more research and improved treatments following a comprehensive review published in the journal Cell. The review summarised menopause knowledge, called for more research into its timeline and treatment, and encouraged individualized, holistic treatment that addressed symptoms and systemic body changes. “The road to menopause is not difficult for all, but for some, symptoms may be severe or even disabling and disruptive to work and family,” the Australian, Italian and US-based authors wrote.
