Not really a fan of watching myself speak, though compliments to the production team and S2G Ventures for a great panel. But the message here is one I care deeply about. We must radically innovate to scale ocean observing by several orders of magnitude (price/performance/temporal-spatial distribution) to enable a sustainable ocean economy. I won't go so far as to say doing so will be as powerful as creating the internet, but . . . Seriously, if you are an #oceantech #innovator or #entrepreneur and want to shape this future for our #planetocean please drop a note. This will take a boatload* of talent to bring to fruition. Justin Manley of Oceankind weighs in on the decreasing costs of sensors and what he views as an exciting time in the ocean intelligence sector. Diving into the Future of Ocean Intelligence
Justin Manley spot on - and yes I had a grin but no loud chuckle. Please have a call with Neil van Niekerk and Team 2DegreesC - they were in the #BX3 Cohort BLUE Excelerator (BX) Program at Blue Institute - Smart, innovative, diligent - and Neil also serves as a mentor for #BX4 - he has a great sense of humor so perhaps laughed loudly :) see you at #oceans24 #Halifax
Justin Manley We have proved that low-cost, hyper-local, ocean climate observations are not only possible, but are accurate. I would love to have this conversation. 2DegreesC.org Karsten Shein, PhD Jenny Dissen Judith Underwood
I tend to agree with every statement here but then again I’m biased. 😎
Innovative approaches are crucial for sustainable ocean economies. Looking forward to seeing how this develops.
Justin Manley, I believe we can help. We should talk.
Justin Manley what kind of sensors are of you referring to?
Justin Manley So true!!! Glad to see you continuing to highlight the importance of marine monitoring.

4wJustin! Good stuff, this has been the discussion since the economic downturn of 08/09, with the moto: "Same Data, Less Cost".... (tough to do), we have tried to honor that. but... it comes with caveats: we must be careful, cheapening the cost of ocean sensors contributes to cheapening the ocean sciences in general. This is evident with the focus shifting to the "sea-surface" and leaving the "water-column" behind, especially along the coast. We must find and keep a balance. Good to see this here, thank you, see you in Halifax!
