Potential good news for business owners in mid-low income communities! According to a CUInsight.com piece, last fall, the Department of the Treasury updated key standards and reforms to the Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI) Fund giving more credit unions the ability to become CDFIs - providing another secure financial resource for underserved communities. These new requirements can assist local credit unions with attaining CDFI status thus giving credit unions the ability to take action on community development in distressed and underserved communities while opening access to other federal, state and local governmental resources as well as charitable, and private sector investments. More credit unions with CDFI designation may help in expanding access to funding, financial services and resources for underserved small- and microbusinesses. Did you know? According to a recent study, people who contribute to charities have a higher usage of credit cards on a monthly basis. In turn, these consumers look to be affiliated and support organizations that also support the community through causes and non-profts. The Network of Giving provides financial institutions with a resource to enable its customers to seamlessly give to the community. It also demonstrates purposeful action, by the card issuing bank, that provides the integrity customers desire and gives them the pride to be affiliated with their organization and the confidence to utilize their services and offerings. Good capital for community development initiatives can come in many forms. We’re happy to have been in our nation’s capital last week as advocates for the U.S. Treasury’s New Markets Tax Credit Program, deepening and broadening our collaborative relationships with many productive, purpose-focused humans and entities in the space. We’re proud, new members of the New Markets Tax Credit Coalition, and we’re here seeking-out credits and other capital funding for their bearing on transformational initiatives afoot at the hands of many mission-driven Ys and their peer community-based organizations. No stone should be left unturned when knowing of the potential and impact on the other side. NEW MARKETS TAX CREDIT COALITION NOVOGRADAC INV. In honor of Celebrating 30 Years of Dedicated Services at Swift, we asked our leaders some questions! Meet Corey (left), Swift's Regional Director of Dedicated Operations 👋 He has been with Swift for 25 years and works with a diverse group of customers and drivers. Q: What is your favorite memory at Swift? A: One of my fondest memories of being a part of the Swift family will always be with Swift Charities and the events that help raise money for great causes and take care of Swift family members. Q: How do you support your drivers and team? A: Open and honest communication and support. We work hard as a group to communicate what is shared both with Swift and our customers to make sure our drivers are well-informed. Being there for drivers when they have needs, regardless of the time or day. Q: What are some benefits for drivers joining a dedicated team? A: Regular routes, consistent pay, building relationships with the customer/delivery locations, and great people. Q: Why do you think it is important to celebrate milestones such as 30 years of Dedicated Services? A: There is nothing easy about trucking. To achieve any longevity, let alone 30 years of dedicated service, is huge. It is a great time to celebrate and have team members tell their stories of how and why they enjoy being part of Swift and Swift Dedicated.
