The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has resisted industry calls to soften its controversial proposals to regulate #PFAS in drinking water. Instead, pressing ahead with what is likely to be the costliest set of new maximum contaminant limits (MCL) in the history of the Safe Drinking Water Act. The regulations will limit allowable PFOA and PFOS levels in #drinkingwater to just 4 parts per trillion, while the agency has also established new MCLs for PFHxS, PFNA and HFPO-DA. Hazard index classifications have been retained, giving the EPA an avenue to incorporate further PFAS further down the line as #toxicology data develops. “Given the array of PFAS manufactured in bulk quantities, regulating further PFAS in drinking water appears inevitable,” suggested Ian Ross, PFAS practice lead at CDM Smith. 💧 Read more: https://lnkd.in/eEhqXKgA
