Great read on how we might motivate uptake of the Dual Prevention Pill. The authors suggest; 1. Connecting with women's diverse identities and goals and celebrating their individuality. 2. Linking the DPP to relationship goals reframes it as a means to protect relationships rather than a risk. 3. Leveraging negative triggers through targeted media campaigns empowers women to take control of their sexual health during challenging moments. 4. A balance in channel placement is necessary to raise public awareness while using more discrete channels for potentially controversial messages with male partners and wider communities. "The goal of this study was to explore the implementation determinants of Our Plan, a couples-based DHI designed for new relationships of same-gender male couples and dyadic, sexual partnerships...Most participants highlighted several relative advantages of Our Plan: increasing capacity to support couples, potential synergy with existing programs, and opportunities to increase patient engagement. Pre-print alert 🎉 Our article “Understanding Reach, Effectiveness, Adoption, Implementation, and Maintenance of home-based comprehensive sexual health care: a Realist Review” is now online as pre-print. This realist review aimed to examine which elements of home-based comprehensive sexual health care impacted which key populations and under which circumstances. We included 92 studies and systematically assessed reach, effectiveness, adoption, implementation and maintenance (RE-AIM). Five key findings were identified which may enhance the implementation of home-based comprehensive sexual health care. The First Nations and Inuit Health Branch’s (FNIHB) Sexually Transmitted and Blood Borne Infections (STBBI) Project was created to respond to the high number of Indigenous people living with HIV and other STBBIs, despite a lack of services designed to meet their needs. We know that this vulnerability to STBBIs is intimately linked to a variety of determinants of health including poverty, housing insecurity, mental health and addictions, adverse childhood experiences, racism, and unresolved intergenerational trauma as a result of colonialism and the legacy of the residential school system. Given this knowledge, STBBI interventions for Indigenous women, girls, Two-Spirit, transgender, and gender diverse people need to be culturally relevant, gender based and trauma-informed. The project has successfully engaged with First Nations, Inuit and Métis women around issues that impact their sexual and reproductive health, including their ability to prevent and treat STBBIs and has created a variety of STBBI and safer sex fact sheets to support increased awareness and empowerment around the prevention, testing and treatment of STBBIs. A #stigma is an attitude that denigrates and debases a person or a group of people due to a characteristic. Internalized stigma is the outcome of the affected person's subsequent coping mechanism. Whether or not there is genuine discrimination, the discredited person's internalized or perceived stigma is just as harmful. The quest of happiness and fulfillment is severely hampered by stigma, which also damages a person's dignity, marginalizes those who are affected, violates fundamental human rights, and significantly reduces the likelihood that a stigmatized person will ever reach their full potential. When a medical disease or handicap is stigmatized, it keeps people from getting evaluated and treated and from adhering to treatment plans. Moreover, many HIV-positive people are afraid to tell their loved ones and sexual partners about their diagnosis for fear of social rejection and losing close relationships. Millions of people contract HIV every year, and stigma has emerged as a major contributing factor to the epidemic.
