Yesterday, we convened at the White House in a landmark event with other awardees of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)’s Milestone-Based Fusion Development Program, industry executives, researchers, and government leaders to discuss new funding opportunities as well as strategies supporting this game-changing technology. There has been significant progress in the past two years since the launch of the Biden-Harris Administration’s Bold Decadal Vision for Commercial Fusion Energy. We are proud to be one of the eight companies to sign agreements with the DOE, an important first step towards pilot plants that will support the rapid deployment of #CleanEnergy for generations to come. Additional energizing (literally) work remains for both the private companies to deliver on these milestones as well as the government to continue to push for necessary support and maintain U.S. leadership in fusion. Americas #Fusion Whisperers... The newly released #DOE Fusion Energy Strategy 2024 is organized around three pillars: 👉 closing the science and technology (S&T) gaps to a commercially relevant fusion pilot plant; 👉 preparing the path to sustainable, equitable commercial fusion deployment; and 👉 building and leveraging external partnerships.

As we come closer to harnessing the power of fusion energy, it’s crucial to create supportive policies to accelerate commercialization. The Fusion Industry Association (FIA) recently published a white paper, “Commercializing Fusion Energy: The policy incentives that will attract and accelerate the fusion industry.” It details policies for success, including: ✅ Use Public-Private Partnerships: Cost-share programs help fusion companies while protecting the taxpayer ✅ Provide Regulatory Certainty: Fusion needs regulations that are entirely separate from fission, a completely different process ✅ Level the Playing Field: Fusion energy technologies should benefit fairly from programs that support zero-carbon, clean energy By aligning efforts across sectors, we can revolutionize our energy landscape, enhance economic security, and tackle climate change effectively. European companies have agreed to establish a European Fusion Association to secure Europe’s long-term energy supply. This initiative aims to tackle one of the biggest challenges for the coming decades: enhancing strategic autonomy for clean energy, with fusion energy being key to this ambition. Benjamin Byboth, CFS’ Senior Manager of Business Development and Strategy, knows more about putting fusion power on the grid than just about anybody. Speaking at FUSION24 today in London, he showed how our ARC fusion power plants stand to dramatically reduce the investment needed to decarbonize energy. Here’s the deal: • Fusion offers a “firm” energy supply customers can count on when they need it. • That firm power complements zero-carbon but variable wind and solar power. • Firm power like fusion can vastly cut the money governments, businesses, and consumers otherwise would have to spend to shift to zero-carbon power. • We think fusion power will be competitively priced even without factoring in firmness. With it, fusion looks even better. We’re building our SPARC tokamak right now to demonstrate net fusion energy. We expect its successor, ARC, will start putting watts on the grid in the early 2030s. #FUSION2024 #FusionEnergy
