I should’ve done this 3 years ago.
Before we started drowning in the sea of cookie cutter “Top 5 Brunch Spots in Soho” influencer posts.
You know, the ones where somehow every dish is “unbelievable” and simply must be pulled apart in slow motion as proof.
So, better late than never, I’m starting a series called “3 ways *this place* will make you feel”. Honest reviews, served with a pinch of salt, of course.
My theory is that dining out experiences are about chasing a feeling. Don’t we all have a certain expectation of what’s waiting for us at the other end of that table booking?
And what better way to kick things off than by unpacking my recent dinner at the icon that is The Devonshire in Soho.
“3 ways The Devonshire will make you feel”:
1. Seen - as if your waiter is about to reel off your regular order and ask how your new dog is enjoying puppy school. You might’ve secured this booking with sweat, blood and tears, but all is quickly forgiven.
2. Relieved - life’s good again, as you can browse the modestly sized menu of 30 items efficiently, freeing up more time to focus on the other key aspect of your visit - savouring that Guinness.
3. Mind blown - the rumours are true - you’ve never encountered a steak this good, anywhere* (*this side of Argentina). Expertly dry-aged and butchered on-site, it’s a real treat for even the most seasoned of carnivores.
If you’ve been, feel free to confirm or deny the above in the comments.
Next up - GAIA Mayfair...
