Do you have a no D!£%head policy?
Turns out it’s good for business.
Yesterday I had the privilege of listening to the Chair of the Welsh Rugby Union Richard Collier-Keywood talk eloquently about the important Welsh cultural asset he is now responsible for and the need for it to serve all stakeholders i.e. benefit society beyond the bottom line.
In business it’s known as CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) which emerged as a concept in the 1960s.
Back then it was seen as an altruistic means of doing more with a business than just making money, but it was assumed it would involve sacrificing profit to achieve it.
The growing evidence shows this is not the case.
Being environmentally responsible, inclusive and serving of all stakeholders (customers, employees, investors, the environment and wider society) builds a strong brand, customer engagement, profit and also investment opportunities.
The All Blacks have an NDH (No D!£%head) policy.
They clean their own dressing rooms, carry their own bags and essentially show humility, accountability and a recognition of all the stakeholders in their organisation.
For me, corporate social responsibility boils down to common sense, respect and humility.
It’s good to see those leading our national game going forward aspire to the same ethos.
And at a time of such high attrition in business in general, would it not be best to have a smart business model that ensures that everyone in the eco system is incentivised to see the venture succeed?

They’re due to contribute roughly 10,000 hours combined working on different high-impact projects throughout their nine months in the program.
As an Executive Board member of Kids' Chance of Florida, it is with a grateful and humble heart to partner with industry leaders like One Call, providing an employee-funded scholarship to Florida student Montse Gallegos.
In August 2022, Montse’s father, a warehouse manager passed away due to injuries following a workplace accident. Later that year, Montse’s mother was diagnosed with Stage 3 colon cancer. On the heels of an extremely tragic year, the Kids’ Chance of Florida/One Call scholarship is enabling her to attend college without the added stress of tuition payments.
“Workplace injuries affect the whole family,” said One Call CEO Jay Krueger. “While trying to overcome grief, families are also forced to deal with mounting financial pressures. We are sensitive to these burdensome situations, which is why we want to be a part of the solution. This scholarship provides the children of critically or fatally injured workers with a path forward. We are proud to play a small role in helping them attain a much brighter future.”
Kids’ Chance of Florida is a state chapter of Kids’ Chance of America, a charitable organization that is dedicated to making a significant difference in the lives of all children affected by workplace injuries by helping them pursue and achieve their educational goals. Children of these workers can no longer count on the income of the injured or deceased parent. Accompanying the grief of loss, or the need to deal with an injured parent, is the increased likelihood that they cannot afford a college education. Since its founding in 1988, Kids' Chance of America has awarded more than 10,000 scholarships totaling more than $36 million.
