Want to keep team output high quality / fast? Write good tests. Want to crash velocity quick? Chase coverage / write trash tests that assert that the code does what it says it does. Tests should be a carbon copy of the business requirements as code - capturing the behavior of the code by "what it does" not how it does it.

I think the progress principle is often overlooked. I often see leaders wanting big, grandiose changes but time and again these projects are late, over budget and don’t deliver the expected benefits. Instead an approach that I’ve seen work is to learn to look for and take small steps but lots of them…. Every week. A fear of organisational change or overload is another reason not to do something and it can paralyse even small progress being made. If you take 2 hours at the end of the week to improve something that annoys you by the end of the year you’ve made 40-50 things better. What do you think?
