Not for her private jet-setting habits that exacerbate climate change, not for promoting and profiting from disposable plastic merchandise that pollutes the world, not even for the negative impact her tour has on affordability in host cities. No, ladies and gentlemen, according to the author of the article, the reason why Taylor Swift cannot be a good role model for young girls is that she dares to be 34, unmarried, childless, and, God forbid, still switching boyfriends 😱 The 1950s called and asked for their prudishness back.👗👠💄🏠 But in all seriousness, I'm not a Taylor Swift fan and couldn't care less about her love life, but I wonder: would anyone ever dare write such criticism about Drake or The Weeknd, both older than Taylor and also unmarried, childless, and with a long trail of high-profile girlfriends? What message do we send to young women with such criticism? That no matter how hard-working and successful you become, ultimately, if you fail to marry and have kids, you will be deemed less worthy, as opposed to a man in the same position? Unsurprisingly, the author of the article is a middle-aged man. Because who else is better positioned to decide for young women who they should be looking up to? Voices like these add to the reactionism we witness worldwide of banning or restricting abortions and politicians going back to talking about 'good family values,' in which a woman's prime role is as a mother. This only emphasizes the fact that we, as women, cannot rest on our laurels, not in Europe and not elsewhere, as our rights and our equality are not guaranteed and keep being questioned over and over again. And to all the young women out there, be whoever you want, marry or not, have kids or not, be a career woman or not. It is up to you, and don't let anyone else tell you otherwise. https://lnkd.in/dBkC6K5x

What you're failing to realize is that women also have a biological clock that is ticking, and many young women are now postponing having children to much later than they otherwise would, sometimes missing that train entirely. Looking up to the wrong lifestyle can have devastating consequences, and it is exactly for this reason, that Swift is probably not a good role model. And for crying out loud, quit the BS about women having a right the kill their offspring, no one has that right, not men nor women. To live is a human right, to kill is not

"At 34, Swift remains unmarried and childless <...> it's crucial to consider what kind of example this sets for young girls. " I can't believe we are reading this in 2024!

Sorry this is BS. She quietly without publicity donates enough money to feed 100,000 people in every city she visits. I’m skeptical but she is truly an angel and the world can go F itself

She is an artist. Not a politician. Like any artist: judge her by the experience she provides first. At a personal level. Beyond that … makes no difference. Quit conflating entertainment with all sorts of other crap. Ideally she would set an example. Ideally.

I don't understand why a singer should be a role model to anyone but other singers/songwriters. How insecure some men seem to feel about women who do whatever they want. The prospect of not being required in women's lives are turning old uncles crazy.
