Founder, CEO Nucleus Learning & KR-HR | Masters of Human Resources & Labor Relations & Science in Admin | Providing a new approach to attract, retain, & engage top talent for today’s employment market.
Manufacturing Leaders identified several best practices to retain and attract top talent. I had the opportunity to co-facilitate an Executive Roundtable hosted by @KMS – @Kansas Manufacturing Solutions. One topic focused on workforce upskilling, training, and development. The group identified the following list that I couldn’t have said better! 1. Have career conversations with your people. a. This is part of PMing (preventative maintenance) your people. b. Learn if people want to go into management or stay a technical expert. 2. Show people the end game. How do they know if they are doing good or bad? 3. Develop career roadmaps. And get better with lower-level positions, not just salaried positions. 4. A good training program helps your company’s reputation, even if employees leave. 5. We need to include different ways to train, using visual, oral, demonstrations, and trying. Hands-on is better than PowerPoint or someone just talking “at” them. 6. Guage each team member. They learn in different ways. 7. Incorporate feedback from the bottom up instead of just the top down, especially with safety topics. 8. Create a culture of wanting to learn and grow. And these best practices work for other industries, too!

What makes a stellar manufacturing team? (Explained in 1 min) It's LINKed operations. This practically means that each operation is connected to the next, creating a continuous chain of activities, giving each team member accountability and reliance on one another. Because of that dependency, the team becomes engaged & more efficient. What also makes a team stand out is the prospect of running towards a problem by confronting it head on instead of steering away from it. Need to elevate your team's performance?
