💥Changing the narrative for women in life, leadership & legacy. Creating impactful change at the intersection of 🔸Leadership 🔸Gender Equality 🔸Generational Inclusion. Speaker/ Author/ Facilitator/ Coach/ Advocate.
#RockYourSTRIPES #inspoquote More FAVulous quotes from my book - 📙Rock Your Stripes - in the lead up to relaunching an updated - Revised 2024 Version 🔸Here is today's #RYSquote - from the intro of Part II - the 'how to' section, unpacking the FAVE 5 Formula ... (p168) Here's the thing: "What I know from many years of head versus heart tug of war is that ... it is the heart that holds your inner feelings, that fuels your values and self-belief, ignites the passion, and drives your motivation and actions. It is the heart that holds the personal stories that mean the most to you. The ones you learned the most from, and you have turned those learnings into core beliefs." ... "It took me three decades to follow my heart and trust my gut instincts, four decades to unshackle and become who I am meant to be, and to bravely rock those uniquely independent stripes, and five decades before I started actively sharing that with others: writing blogs and media posts, facilitating workshops, presenting talks, and mentoring - all for the purpose of helping others." ... (extract pp168-69) Frankly - I feel like I'm just peeking in my sixth decade ... with more passion, purpose, personal power and wisdom to contribute than any decade before. And yet ... others don't see it that way. They subscribe to ageist thinking and ageism bias that society normalises as 'that's just the way it is'. I'm calling BS on that ... in my next book. 😜 #Change #DesignyourLife #Courage #Passion #Purpose #Legacy

All the CEOs I've coached or served want the same thing: Get to the point quickly. Time is a precious commodity. Ironically, most self-help books are packed with redundancies and time-wasting fillers—just the opposite of what high-achieving CEOs want. As I pitched my book manuscript for "Silence the Imposter" to top-tier publishers, a typical response I got from them was: "The manuscript is strong. It just needs to be twice as many pages." While they're the book-selling experts, I couldn't force myself into that typical formula. I like to learn, but I hate books that waste my time. Since I didn't have a million followers, publishers couldn't see a path to selling 10,000 books a week, and I didn't buy into the "the more pages, the better" philosophy; I didn't get a publisher to bite. Instead, with my wife's encouragement, I ponied up my own money to publish it as I wrote it—with no fluff and no filler. Chris Plemmons’ recent review of my book states, "Everything you need, with none of the filler most authors put in to reach a publisher's page count." Another CEO recently told me, "I read your book. Thanks for getting to the point, keeping me engaged, & not adding any filler. I'll pay EXTRA to read a shorter book than something that rehashes the same point umpteen times." Even though I haven't sold 10,000 copies a week (or broken even on my investment), I have no regrets for keeping it short, sweet, and to the point. It's time to embrace the "anything but typical" (and cut out the time-wasting fillers). It's time to silence the imposter. Agree? #impostersyndrome #imposter #anythingbuttypical #entrepreneurrecent BGW CPA, PLLC

A little over six months ago I became an author. The folks at Streamline Books told me that “The world needs my book,” and together we gave birth to "Driving Through Fog." https://lnkd.in/gw2a2gin Even though I think the world would have done fine without my book, the experience has been transformational. Here are my biggest take-aways from the past six months: 1) We all struggle to see where we are going. Leading yourself and others when you can’t see where you are going is a never-ending disposition. Complete vision is an illusion. Not only do we not know what the future holds but often what is needed is the authentic environment to wrestle with our specific fog. Whether it’s adversity, boredom, unmet expectations, fear, situational pain, or conflict, just to name a few; people of all ages have reached out to me regarding their fog. What I have learned is that fog is normal. 2) Remedies to fog are often shallow and do a disservice to our own growth. Many people don’t work through their fog because every time they talk about it with someone else, all they hear are answers. “You should do this, or you should do that…” Friends may mean well but it’s really not helpful. One message from someone who heard me speak on the subject thanked me specifically for not giving cookie cutter, Sunday School answers to the fog in her life. She said, “I don’t need someone to lead me out of the fog, I just need help finding the right lane.” Principles are timeless. Who are we to prescribe action steps to someone else’s context? What I have learned is we all need to make decisions, grieve, and experience hope for ourselves. 3) That being said, the number one lesson I continue to learn from my friends, family, and coaching clients is that we desperately need community. You may need to work through the fog in your life but you don’t have to walk alone.

Fear: Trump in the White House Bob Woodland Rating: 7.5 Interesting read. It's the first book in a trilogy. At the time when this was written I wasn't quite old enough to understand Donald Trump's running. This book was written by a Democrat. From early on, it makes you think about how Bob wrote. It was still a very interesting read and I have no involvement in American politics. Despite this, I felt the article was biased against President Trump. The beach: By Alex Garland Rating: 8.5 Recommended by a friend. This was a very enjoyable read. There was a lot of intrigue in the writing of this. It was a story full of twists and turns that kept you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end. After reading this story I'm eager to watch the movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio! You can't hurt me. By David Gogins Rating: 4.9 David Goggins, I'm not sure why I engaged in this story. Despite my interests, I am not a David Goggins fan. I feel it's all fugazi. To each their own. His story was inspiring. From a tough upbringing to a navy seal, he's certainly worked hard to get to where he is; all power to him. It was written by Mark Manson, a fellow motivational guru. Well written, enjoyable story, just not for me. Improve your conversations By Patrick King Rating: 6.8 Impulse, impulse, impulse. Grammar, writing, and speaking are my current obsessions. That would seem to be the case here. In my opinion, it was an interesting piece of basic knowledge. The focus is more on improving conversation skills than on improving communication skills. The two, however, are inextricably linked.
