Young people today face significant mental health challenges due to factors such as social media pressure, academic stress, and economic uncertainty. Constant comparison on social media can lead to low self-esteem and anxiety. High expectations in education contribute to stress and depression. Economic instability creates chronic stress and uncertainty. Relationships, both positive and negative, play a crucial role in mental health. Limited access to mental health services and stigma surrounding mental health issues prevent many young people from seeking help. Addressing these factors requires a comprehensive approach to support and promote mental well-being.

Today is time to talk day! What is Time to Talk Day? Time to Talk Day is the nation’s biggest mental health conversation. Happening every year, it’s a day for friends, families, communities, and workplaces to come together to talk, listen and change lives. Time to Talk Day 2024 will take place 1 February 2024. It’s run by Mind and Rethink Mental Illness and is being delivered in partnership with Co-op for the third year running. Across the UK, it’s delivered by See Me in Scotland, Inspire in Northern Ireland and Time to Change Wales.  The more conversations we have, the better life is for everyone. Talking about mental health isn’t always easy, and sometimes it’s even harder to say how you really feel. But a conversation has the power to change lives. On this day in 1963, President John F. Kennedy signed the Community Mental Health Act, which laid the groundwork for a better mental health care system that was more focused on community-based mental health care, however, it fell short and was never fully realized. People living with mental illness deserve just and equitable treatment as well as the right to self-determination and community. Through clubhouses, we are working to show what can happen when people are seen as more than their illness and given the tools to lead healthy and fulfilling lives.
