When I was young, my parents were told that I wouldn’t get my desired school choice. Despite being in the immediate area, they were told and I quote: “She’ll be fine, she has good parents.” They were right. As an individual, I had nurturing parents who set me challenges and taught me skills from their own lives that I cherish and use today. Consultants and leaders, like Matthew Ebert, believe that creating a positive environment for all children is not just the job of performance. It’s the job of schools too. And it isn’t about more testing. Or more pressure. It’s about creating a positive environment for staff. They need to feel empowered. Listened to. Involved. To feel that they can be leaders.
