Recent articles highlight the “deinfluencer,” the social media voices that supposedly offer expert guidance on what NOT to buy. Some of the latest media coverage, however, fails to fully examine these “influencers in sheep’s clothing.” They often are simply directing their audiences from one discouraged product to purchase another. Authentic deinfluencers, advocating #circulareconomy principles, provide helpful insights on moving away from the “cult of new” and help people find second-hand, repaired or refurbished, or upcycled alternatives. Unfortunately, the current social media economy doesn’t really reward these heroes. A good overview of the issue here. #sustainability #socialmedia

"We're in an era where traditional media no longer holds the monopoly on information dissemination," says Hilary Gorbould, influencer marketing manager at Stockholm-based Redgert Comms. As social media commands more and more attention, she says, not only does it provide new channels for revenue, but it also enables businesses to precisely hit their ideal customers. "Influencer marketing allows brands to convey their message to a target demographic while hand-picking ambassadors who resonate with their ethos," says Gorbould. With the arrival of the Internet and social networks, our dependence on different websites has increased considerably, such as Tik Tok and Instagram.
