Attacking the hurdle. How many times have you heard or said those words? If you're in the hurdling world, probably quite a lot. Like Gino, he has been hearing those words frequently since October, and here we are witnessing that his listening was active; the message went through, and the theoretical model is starting to be applied in real life. When it comes to the attack, most of us think about that lead leg hitting strongly forward. However, the amazing work executed by the Panamanian hurdler led by our lead coach Jani Ratia is focused on slightly different details. The words we use are: "¡Por encima de la valla!", literally "On top of the hurdle", with the meaning of imposing yourself over the barrier, attacking, and at the same time, meeting it as it passes underneath you. Another brilliant image provided by coach Jani is "hurdles are coming to you, you've got to be quick!". That brings to mind those 80s-style video games where the character is still in the middle of the screen, and you can only jump over obstacles coming at you faster and faster while advancing in the game.
