Lighted Laser Probe - Simplicity in Action I had the opportunity to join Surgical Streaming Society members Dr. David Miller and Dr. Harrison Scuilli in Cleveland via STYCH.TV during a retina surgery. We discussed the merits of a lighted laser probe to treat iatrogenic retinal tears. This innovative tool offers simplicity and precision, making it invaluable in managing such delicate cases. The case underscored the critical importance of performing a scleral depressed peripheral retinal exam after vitrectomy. Literature has documented that the risk of retinal breaks after vitrectomy ranges from 3% to 15%, depending on the complexity of the surgery and patient factors. Identifying and treating these breaks promptly can significantly reduce the risk of post-operative retinal detachment, a complication that can have serious implications for visual outcomes. Preventing a post-operative retinal detachment is priceless. It ensures better recovery and long-term visual health for our patients. The insights and real-time discussions enabled by STYCH.TV and the Surgical Streaming Society (SSS) are revolutionizing our approach to surgical education and patient care. #SurgicalStreaming #RetinaSurgery #LightedLaserProbe #Ophthalmology #MedicalEducation #STYCHTV #SurgicalExcellence #RetinalDetachmentPrevention
