𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞’𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐍𝐎𝐓 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐨. When you are starting up in tech, there are plenty of articles and YouTube videos describing the winning formula that you could follow. However, once you get started, you will realise that the list of what NOT to do is important to stick on the wall above your desktop. Why? When others have fallen into the same trap over and over again, you can avoid wasting valuable time and money by learning from their mistakes. So if I were to highlight three tips that are worth remembering at every stage of your startup journey, they would be these: 👉 Not all ideas have a market While there is a market for MOST ideas, not all of them are best suited for your ability and circumstance. Build ideas that solve problems, test them out one at a time, and continue on the ones that bring the most recognizable value to your customer. 👉 Do not compromise your health and wellbeing just to be part of the 4am club A sharp and alert mind makes better decisions and reacts more rationally when things go wrong. When you can, get some sleep. 👉 Aiming to grow as fast as possible This is the fastest way to burn money. Having the financial runway to expand more sustainably matters more than saying you were able to 10x in the first year. If you plan on being a round for a while, do not ignite artificial growth. 🎯 New Year, Sharper Focus: My Approach to 2024 I've always believed that perseverance trumps New Year’s resolutions. But this year, I’m embracing a change in strategy - doing less to achieve more. My focus for 2024? Cutting out the noise and distractions, focusing on the activities that trully matter and have a positive impact on our business. Reflecting on last year, I realized that the startup ecosystem is brimming with events, calls, and programs. It's hard not to get lost in this crowd and only choose the ones will have a positive impact. So, this year, my priority is our clients and prospects at Nooka Space, ensuring we direct our energy where it truly counts. Understanding their needs and challenges in-depth is where our true value lies.
