When I first started teaching PE over 20yrs ago I fondly remember the summer term of warm weather and the kids loving getting outside for a couple of months of cricket, softball and athletics ☀️ I even remember sun cream, shades and a cap being essential items in my bag every day 😎 But the last few years have been absolutely awful in terms of summer term weather 🌧️ Our kids are being robbed of the best time of year for physical activity, especially when you consider that most schools also have to use the sports hall and any available indoor PE space for GCSE exams during a large part of this term 📝 On top of that at evenings, weekends and holidays you can see how this current climate is pulling kids away from playing outside and instead gravitating them back to digital devices 💻🕹️📱 Grey skies and rain clouds ruining an important part of our children’s development ☹️

Thanks to NORTHERN LIGHTS LEARNING TRUST, today I was privileged to be speaking at the same conference as British Olympic legend Eddie ‘The Eagle’ Edwards ⛷️🇬🇧🦅 Imagine telling 11yr old me back in 1988 whilst the nation cheered him on as the first ever British Olympic ski jumper, that at some point in the future I’d be his warm up act! 🤯🎙️🤣

Getting into the groove of a fortnightly video blog for parents alongside the Head at one of our secondary schools. We filmed episode 3 this week, giving parents an insight into everything happening in the school, rather than a traditional newsletter that might never be read. He’s done it again…another cracker! But surely the problem Andrew Jennings 🥷 will soon have if he keeps churning out books at this rate, will be that he’ll run out of different book cover colours to use! 🎨 You can probably read this one in the dark 😉

I mentioned in a post last week about my full circle moment of St Aidans C of E Academy joining NORTHERN LIGHTS LEARNING TRUST and that they’ve got a relatively new building (15yrs old) situated close to the old Eastbourne School site (where I first started teaching over 20yrs ago). It’s a beautiful learning environment for the students & staff and a far cry from the old Eastbourne School building!
