Its happening already...#AI job postings are growing 3.5x faster than all jobs, attracting a 25% premium in some areas according to this report from PwC. If your organisation is looking at AI to drive productivity or cut costs, effective workforce planning needs to happen now. “AI is transforming the labour market globally and presents good news for a global economy hindered by deep economic challenges and concerns around long-term business viability. For many economies experiencing labour shortages and low productivity growth, the findings highlight optimism around AI with the technology representing an opportunity for economic development, job-creation, and the creation of new industries entirely. However, the findings show that workers will need to build new skills and organisations will need to invest in their AI strategies and people if they are to turbocharge their development and ensure they are fit for the AI age" - Carol Stubbings - .Global Markets and Tax & Legal Services (TLS) Leader, PwC UK.

Today, a friend expressed a common concern: "I'm worried about losing my job to AI." This sentiment is understandable, but it's important to recognise that AI is not here to take away our jobs but to transform and enhance the way we work, creating exciting new opportunities in the process. AI is revolutionising the job market in the UK, and while it will indeed change the nature of many jobs, it also promises to generate new roles and boost economic growth. According to PwC's 2024 Global AI Jobs Barometer, sectors exposed to AI are experiencing nearly fivefold growth in labor productivity. This increase in productivity can lead to economic development, higher wages, and enhanced living standards (PwC, 2024) (PwC). AI isn't just about replacing tasks; it's about augmenting human capabilities and creating new fields of work. For instance, the World Economic Forum highlights that AI will likely create roles such as AI trainers, explainers, and sustainers. These jobs involve developing AI systems, designing user interfaces, and ensuring ethical AI use, respectively (World Economic Forum, 2023) (World Economic Forum). This shift opens doors to numerous new career paths that didn't exist before. The UK government reports that AI will create as many jobs as it displaces over the next 20 years. While some sectors like manufacturing might see job reductions, others like healthcare are expected to experience significant growth. The health and social work sector alone could see an increase of nearly one million jobs, as AI enables more efficient and personalised care (PwC UK, 2024) (PwC). It's also crucial to note that the integration of AI into the workforce necessitates reskilling and upskilling. Companies are focusing on training their employees to work alongside AI, thus enhancing their productivity and creating new opportunities. Accenture emphasises the importance of this approach, suggesting that 65% of tasks impacted by AI could be transformed into more productive activities through augmentation (World Economic Forum, 2023) (World Economic Forum). Rather than fearing AI, we should embrace it as a powerful tool that can enhance our capabilities and open up new career opportunities. By staying adaptable and continuously learning, we can work with AI to build a more innovative and productive future.
