Tomorrow May 2nd Manchester Angels (moi), Cambridge Angels (Simon Thorpe) and Turing Innovation Catalyst Manchester (Elizabeth Scott MBE) are hosting an event quite unlike anything before. I am literally giving away my playbook - this is how the team at Glenluna Ventures raise money for startups (just closed 4th deal this year!). If that wasn't interesting enough, the amazing team at GigPig (Michael Forster Kit Muir-Rogers) will talk about the brutal realities of raising a round during an insanely tough market whilst still building something incredible. Manchester is a truly awesome place to build a startup. There's loads of reasons why. But for me, it's all about the people and the community. Firstly, there isn’t a guarded mentality among founders. Founders actually give a s**t about each other’s success and are not shy to share knowledge about raising capital and who to speak to. And to celebrate each others' success; knowing it isn't a 'zero-sum-game'. Founding a business can be lonely. But the community in Manchester definitely helps overcome that. And secondly, there is an abundance of talent in the region and an entrepreneurial culture (that stretches back decades) that makes building that early team comparatively easy. Right now, I think Manchester (and the entire Northern eco-system) is on the up-and-up. Anyone else get that feeling? Or am I just being over-optimistic? #founders #startups #vcfunding
