Across most cultures, women are the primary caregivers by default both for their children and for elderly parents. As a result, they can often be left feeling less financially secure in the long term, despite making most of the household decisions about discretionary spending, having a significant influence on financial planning and taking on responsibility for more assets. As wealth is being transferred to women, they are engaging more, but don’t feel well served by the industry. There is a role that insurers can play to bridge this gap. It was wonderful to host an insightful panel discussion in our Hong Kong office yesterday in collaboration with Morgan Stanley to celebrate the International Day Against Homophobia Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOTB) and learn more about how we can create a safe and open environment for everyone to feel a sense of belonging.   Emery Fung facilitated the panel discussion on how we can be more inclusive of trans and non-binary people both in the workplace and in the community. It was very moving to hear the personal stories from Emery and Cecil Huang, as well as how Steven Fry at @Kellet International is helping nurture a safe and more inclusive space for kids in Hong Kong schools. Peter Picton-Phillipps (he/him) and Binay Singh also showcased all the work EY and Morgan Stanley do, not just through their fantastic LGBT+ networks, but also through values both companies strongly support.   Whilst we celebrate IDAHOTB on May 17, we role model inclusive leadership at EY all year round. We’ve witnessed how the COVID-19 pandemic has led to significantly heightened awareness of the importance of health and wellness and this has resulted in increased appeal of and demand for supplement private healthcare insurance in Asia-Pacific (APAC) and elsewhere.   With growth in demand for health cover seen across most markets, insurers have the opportunity to capitalize on the significant health protection gap which, even with increased government spending, remains wide.   In EY’s 2023 Global Insurance Outlook (https://lnkd.in/eTQw_3wu), the widening global protection gap, which includes shortfalls in health insurance, represents new revenue stream opportunities but closing the gap will require insurers to think and act differently.   I hope you enjoy this article and I look forward to hearing your feedback.
