Telco, 5G and Edge

A very good interview by Telenor TCO Amol Phadke in the TM Forum on #SovereignCloud. We all know that the telecom revenue isn’t moving in the same direction as what 5G growth has anticipated. There are however potential with some telcos starting to turn the business around as well. If only we can do a CTRL-C and CTRL-V across the 10,000s carriers worldwide but unfortunately it is a industry known with many silos and legacy infrastructure. That’s why the concept of “delayering” comes in, for a more agile, more open, and structure it to do-what-you-do-best in InfraCo, ServCo and NetCo.   I echo what Telenor CTO said, “there are growth everywhere but if there is something near to your core business, you have a higher chance of success”. AI is promising, however questions of regulatotion and compliance around it are raised more each day. The sovereign cloud will be something to look at, and who else is better place when it comes to regulation and compliance – the telecom industry at its core business. It is not just highly regulated (that also plays a factor on why OTT constantly eat into their market share), it is also an industry that understands the local compliance and already own existing infrastructure of data center and networking/fiber. #FocusOnYourCore #SovereignCloud #TMForum
