Here's Ericsson on the record saying it will support the O-RAN Cat A interface, but not the unenhanced Cat B for M-MIMO Radio Units.
Vodafone says it will take Ericsson's Open RAN commitments at face value, but it will put it to work on proving its credentials.
It will use its 170k site tender to provide an incentive (and a warning).
One rival Open RAN vendor (OK, it's Mavenir) says that Ericsson's lack of support for the existing M-MIMO category is a tactic to delay things and lock out rivals, although it also says it will adopt the new interface in time.
Confused? Hopefully not.
In the end, it's going to come down to the desire of operators to truly keep their deployment options open. Vodafone's Yago Tenorio, for one, says he wants to see all classes and categories supported.
