Nowadays, it’s really hard to find a legit excuse for avoiding self development, as long as you have a stable internet connection.  🏋️♀️ Event 1: Sport as a social impact tool.  Sport Integrity Global Alliance and Siga Youth Forum Amazing, valuable session which covered various angles of sport as a powerful tool, opening many doors, especially for the youths. My personal key takeaway was direct naming sport with ‘’power to change the world and breaking down the racial barriers’’. Other important,from my professional activity perspective, outcome was a clear statement of importance of Empowering Women and Girls though sport. Sport has the extraordinary ability to transcend borders, it's not just a game; it's a business, it’s a strategy and last but definitely not least: it’s a WIND OF CHANGE. Taylor Green Ben Gollings Adeola Adesoba 📚 Event 2: Harvard Business School and Roche on How Business Can Lift Up The World: A Panel On Purpose-Driven Companies 🙏 I was delighted to hear: ‘’If you want to drive innovation company, purpose and  profit have to be in synergy” George Serafeim Panelist asked: what's your company's purpose? What value do you provide to your customers? How do you attract and nurture the best talent to uphold your company's mission? Especially the last one seemed to be important in terms of the employees retention. Why? 💼Because business models and strategies need to align with impact. With a clear purpose and visible impact company makes, even when faced with challenges, people can keep the motivation and move company forward. Roche & Alan Hippe, emphasizes the power of cooperation, citing healthcare as an example where certain issues can't be resolved by one person or one company alone. This underscores the importance of cooperation and partnerships. 🌍Whether it's in business or sports, the message remains the same: if you want to change the world, real change happens when we collaborate and support one another. That's why I'm thrilled to introduce Catch.Me new partner David kabambo who share our commitment to making a positive impact. 🤝 🙏 And as always, huge thank you to SportsUganda and Andrew Byekwaso, who started the fire years ago and fuels me with a good word when doubting!

Entering deeper into the second half of 2023, it’s encouraging to see the continued growth in attendance and revenue with live sporting events in the U.S. and globally. According to Statista, in 2023, sports event revenue is expected to reach $15.42 billion in the U.S., and is expected to reach $18.36 billion by 2027 – a projected annual growth of 4.46%. As this recent article in Rolling Stone points out, this growth is directly related to the advancement of three key areas: 1)   Sustainability will remain a high priority for global sporting events, such as FIFA World Cup and the Olympic Games, and this trend will only increase exponentially with the support of event organizers, fans and sponsors. 2)   Technology will continue to enhance and transform the fan experience, and, as cliché as it has become, #AI is making live sporting events more entertaining with higher fan engagement. With new, emerging technology finding ways to integrate into #sports each day, AI will continue to evolve and make a major impact on the future growth of sports business. 3)   Accessibility at sporting events, both intellectually and physically, must be driven by new technology and will help bridge the gap to make events more inclusive. It’s also impossible to ignore the rise of Women’s Sports today – look no further than the record-setting 2023 Women’s World Cup with attendance, viewership and engagement at an all-time high. Looking at sport through a business lens allows us to appreciate the multifaceted impact it has on society. We get to appreciate that sport is not just about the game but rather a wide reaching industry with significant economic implications. From school and grassroots level to professional leagues, sports generate revenue, create jobs and in various ways stimulates local economies. By understanding the business side of sports, one is able to leverage its potential for economic growth and social development. In fact, like in any other industry, the sports industry needs constantly evolve in order to service the needs of consumers, stay relevant and be profitable. It is this drive to remain relevant that ultimately leads to innovations and advancements in sports fan engagement as well as technology. Understanding the sports ecosystem from a business perspectives empowers athletes to make informed decisions about their careers and administrators to look at how best to make their organisations financially sustainable. From contract negotiations to personal branding, understanding the financial and marketing aspects of the sports industry will assist individuals maximise their potential both on and off the field. Also, the competitive nature of the sports business encourages strategic partnerships and investments that benefit both the industry and its stakeholders.

From the inception of Orbit I wanted to have a sponsor on board. Not just because someones gotta pay the bills but also for legitimacy. Having a brand partner from the get go shows the audience that this is a show that can be trusted and is worth subscribing to. The Media Kit Myth I followed common advice and created a media kit, a fancy PDF showcasing my channel to lure potential sponsors. Even with feedback from marketing experts, none of the brands I sent it to responded. Why? It seemed companies weren't keen on a cold email from a channel without an audience. Show, Don't Tell That's when I remembered a basic filmmaking principle: show, don't tell. As a video creator, writing about my content just wasn't creating an emotional response. Even with enlisting ChatGPT to write a more compelling pitch. Instead I crafted a simple landing page where potential partners could actually watch what I was building and see that I knew what I was doing. Most crucially they could book a call right there using a Calendly widget. The Turning Point With that new approach I reached out to another set of ideal partners and the result? Boom – I got a reply. Angelbird Technologies - an Austrian company renowned for making the world's best memory cards said, "Tell me more." That started a conversation spanning the first half of the year, ultimately leading to a mutually beneficial collaboration and I’m extremely happy to build a lasting relationship with them. Unlocking the Door to Sponsorship Success Now, it wasn't just the cool videos that made this collaboration possible. Three key factors paved the way: A Weak Preexisting Connection: Having worked for Canon before, I was on eye level with one of their Brand Ambassadors who gave me the right contact information. Targeting the Right Market: I was explicit about my focus on the European market, aligning with their desire to expand awareness there. Follow-Up: After promising conversations, following up is what makes or breaks a deal. It's easy to assume you have a deal after a call, but without follow-up, opportunities can vanish. Just ask a sports star for his opinion... An idea that for many is and will remain wishful thinking. If you are not directly connected to an athlete in some way (e.g. as a friend), it becomes extremely difficult and time-consuming to contact this target group, let alone receive feedback. Especially in the "closed store" of men's soccer, this is a realization that many start-ups had to learn very quickly. Whether as a test person for a new innovative product or as a business angel for the next round of funding - sports stars are inundated with requests and therefore often do not even allow direct outreach. This can be a huge pain point for a startup, especially when it comes to fundraising, if the founding team has decided to take on an athlete. Athlete investors are probably the type of business angels that are the most difficult to reach. The selection of the optimal communication channel in advance is therefore of great importance for the success of the approach. What are the different alternatives? 👔 Consulting agencies - probably one of the most obvious ways. Accordingly, the management often receives inquiries by email etc. and blocks most of them. - and blocks most of them. "No time, not our area of responsibility, not interested" are the classic responses you get... if you get any feedback at all. If you really get through the door here as a startup, there is of course great potential hidden behind it. In the best case scenario, the agency gives you access to a large number of athletes - so you can become a real multiplier here. 📱 LinkedIn - the Instagram for business. Anyone interested in business and economics is also a member of this up-and-coming social network. The same applies to sports stars. More and more athletes are setting up their own account on the platform, are silent observers or actively participate in the exchange. This gives founders the opportunity to seek direct contact with them. The sticking point? The contact request. Another barrier that can ultimately prevent access. 👥 Events - personal is always best. Admittedly, most public events have few to no athletes as guests. In addition, they are shielded by security personnel or are only on site for a short period of time for a single keynote or similar. Nevertheless, there are always events where the probability of coming into contact with this target group is higher. Last week, for example, at the OMR Festival. The chance of a face-to-face meeting makes attending events quite attractive. If we're honest, personal contact is still much nicer than the digital alternative. What remains? Making contact with sports stars without your own personal network is extremely time-consuming. This challenge is one of the main reasons why we launched Athlete Capital. With our network, we make it easier to access professional athletes and thus promote the exchange between innovation and sport. As a sports photographer, I thrive on capturing the intensity of the game. Recently, I was asked to discuss the challenges faced by innovators in established organizations, and it brought to mind an image I captured during a college basketball game. In this photo, you see Missy May Valdez (22), a determined 5’2” sophomore from Olympic Community College, fearlessly driving past a formidable blocker for the shot. It reminds in me in many ways of how innovators navigate corporate gatekeepers. Innovation requires fearlessness in the face of daunting challenges. Innovators must be willing to take risks and embrace the possibility of failure. They need to possess skill, persistence, and unwavering commitment, even when confronted with well-established obstacles. Innovation also demands mental preparedness and adaptability to tackle new challenges every play, every day. However, innovation goes beyond what we see in this single photograph. It necessitates a fully supportive team and a coach (management team) that is equally invested, starting from the top. Success comes from working together, celebrating victories and learning from defeats with grace and confidence. To be sustainable, innovation must be deeply ingrained in the organization's culture; otherwise, wins can quickly turn into losses. Even with these elements, success is never guaranteed or sustained. However, without them, the chances of succeeding are significantly diminished, potentially leading an organization to settle for mediocrity. Through sports and photography, we can gain insights into the full dynamic range of an organization, one slice at a time. I feel privileged to witness this regularly in my work.
