Shout out to Girls in Tech - Los Angeles and this great group of panelists for a soul-filling night talking about mentorship - my favorite topic! A few takeaways / reminders 👇: 1. Mentoring comes in all shapes and sizes, and may be formal, but most likely it's quite informal, and can even happen over crab cakes and a glass of wine at a hotel bar with a stranger. You never know how you can impact someone's life by just saying hello. 2. You don't necessarily need to meet your mentor. With social media, LinkedIn (whoop!), YouTube, Podcasts, etc., you can follow people you admire, listen to their speeches, read what they write, learn how they lead. 3. You don't need to take your mentor's advice. They are sharing their one lived experience. Your path is different. Take in what applies, listen, but make your own choices. 4. My favorite - say thank you and share an update! If someone makes an introduction for you, opens their network, gets your foot in the door for a job, always remember to share an update. Mentors want to know you followed through and hear what happened. Even if it doesn't turn into a job, let them know the status vs leaving them in the dark. It's good manners. I'm guilty of forgetting this as well, so it's a good reminder. 5. Don't forget to pay it forward, no matter what your seniority. Mentorship is a two-way street. Once you've learned something, share it. Create the Cycle of Service! 🙌 The Panel: Malena Higuera, Delores Druilhet Morton, Elizabeth Simer, Jolene Abbott. Moderated by the wonderful Jill Hotchkiss🦋.
Thank you for sharing this! Love mentoring and being mentored. Good reminders for us all. Catch up soon?

1moGood reminder in number 4. I feel like the younger generation has lost their way on that a bit.
