Last Thursday we had round 2 of our Creative Supper Club. We had the pleasure of hosting 10 Grow London Global companies, alongside international investors. Facilitating engaging discussions, I helped steer conversations with Hannah, Pepijn, and Ⓜ️ Mathew on the topic of international investment in the UK and EU. Some key insights we learned: ✏ UK regulations can offer a more streamlined path for raising investment capital compared to other markets in the EU. ✏ Warm introductions significantly increase investor responsiveness and interest in reviewing company pitches. ✏ Investors prioritise not only financials but also assess the caliber of the team and talent. Additionally, platforms like Glassdoor ratings are influential in investor assessments.

Here's my latest story with Swati Pandey and Ainslie Chandler about the first foray of South By Southwest – otherwise known as SXSW – in Sydney, and its economic impact on the city. Nicole Kidman, Baz Luhrmann and Chance the Rapper will join business leaders from Canva, Atlassian and Tesla at Sydney’s upcoming South by South West festival, a first for the harbor city that’s struggled to reverse years of Covid closures and grappled with restrictive night entertainment laws. The event, which starts Oct. 15 and is the first iteration of SXSW to be held outside North America, is expected to attract around 27,000 visitors and inject A$24 million ($15.4 million) into New South Wales state economy, according to the government. Arts and recreation in Australia was the second-hardest hit industry behind accommodation and food during the pandemic, and also much slower to recover. But long before Covid, as far back as 2014 when Sydney introduced lockout laws to snuff out alcohol-fueled violence, many bars and entertainment venues shuttered. In 2021 Sydney’s first 24 Hour Economy Commissioner was installed in a bid to make its nightlife more diverse and vibrant, while prioritizing attracting major events, art installations and live music. https://lnkd.in/gSYU6DtW

Take aways: -Initial announcement includes something unique. -Ensure enough time for feedback from demo before any big events. In this case, Steamfest. -Longer Demo's are better for festivals. -Playtime directly correlates to how well your game sells.
