The latest monthly SPARK Studio event was led by Dr Erica Conway, former IVD clearance lead at BSI, a notified body that reviews medical devices for regulatory compliance. Dr Conway led a talk on In Vitro Diagnostics where she focussed on guidance through the regulatory process—from early-stage discovery and feasibility to completion of the Design Control process. This is one of many “key-opinion leaders” events to support the the thriving ecosystem of of health-tech innovation across the region. Cohort members on the SPARK programme are using IVD testing to develop: 👉 Rapid tests for sepsis and antibiotic susceptibility 👉 Urine sample tests for adrenal gland cortical carcinoma (tumour) 👉 blood tests to check source of renal transplant rejection This programmes is being delivered as part of Aston University’s active involvement in the delivery of the West Midlands Health Tech Innovation Accelerator - WMHTIA by the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, in partnership with Innovate UK and the West Midlands Combined Authority.
