This story reminds me of the saying "using yesterday's tactics to fight tomorrow's wars" and this is exactly what happens in cyber. The battlefield shifts so rapidly, that by the time we catch up to adversary TTPs, the advanced adversary has already moved on to something new. What worked yesterday, may not work tomorrow, for anything except for low-grade internet noise. Our playbooks in cyber need a lot more OODA and a lot less security control framework guidance. Approaches like Cyber Informed Engineering or Threat Modeling forces us to think about the problems and create right-sized solutions that work. Detection Engineering gives us the capabilities to rapidly respond. If you are not doing the work to really understand the problems and implement solutions that directly mitigate the risk, then its just a checkbox exercise and you should not be surprised when you have a really bad day. https://lnkd.in/eCCN7ed5
