Introverts, it's time to set some boundaries and protect your energy! I have been terrible in the past at setting and sticking to my boundaries, whether it was saying yes to work when my mind was shouting no, working long hours or just trying to please others at my own expense. All this did was lead me to overwhelm, stress, anxiety and total burn-out! Let me tell you, that is not a fun place to be! Having strong boundaries not only helps us to build self-confidence, but also allows us to fully recharge and be our best selves. Whether it's saying no to more work, turning down some social invitations, setting time limits on phone conversations, or creating a dedicated space for alone time, remember that it's okay to prioritize yourself and your needs. Monday Morning Mind Hack: Minimize Your Choices To Maximize Your Decisions. As a military man, I used to wear a uniform so that’s a choice I didn’t have to worry about. (I have recently instituted a civilian uniform for myself lol) I set up my son’s wardrobe for the week on Sunday’s and sometimes I make weather related audibles but always the night before and never the morning of. There are so many decisions that are already made for me early in my day that everything just flows because once my day is started, now I have to make decisions far more significant than wardrobe and dietary preference. This is because the choice of what to wear literally drains me. It takes up more of my mental energy than I would care to admit. A friend of mine is a lawyer and he says he color codes and basically rotates three colors out. Different suits but a simple color pattern so he isn’t stressed about wardrobe choices. I knew that uniform helped me in more ways than one! But the science is simple. Automate your recurring and normal decisions so you have the capacity to be mentally engaged for complex high level decisions. Imagine me in a meeting making a high level decision about someone’s career when I have mentally exhausted myself trying to decide which shoes to wear. It would be one thing if fashion were my job, but that’s not what puts food on the table. So my suggestion to you is to automate or simplify your recurring low level choices so that you have more mental energy to devote to higher level decisions.
