Sometimes spite can be pretty motivating. Super proud of my son who just finished his 1 year of no candy or soda. Unlike his older sister (who also did this challenge for the health benefits, and wanting to challenge herself), he ended up doing this challenge in the spur of the moment when his sister said there was no way he could last a year without candy/soda. His entire motivation was simply to prove to his older sister he could. 😊 He even gave up his last Halloween to go trick-or-treating because he knew it would be too much of a temptation and he made one of my all-time favorite quotes from him "dad, I don't want to go trick-or-treating because I will eat the candy if I do and if that happens, Maya will be right and I just have to prove her wrong." He avoided candy/soda on all of our family vacations, holiday parties, school parties, campouts and even gave his weekly "candy reward" from his piano teacher to his sisters. The power of sibling rivalry and wanting to prove others wrong. 😊 Nonetheless, an impressive accomplishment for a then 12-year-old.
Now that is baller! I gave up soda for a year at a similar age to prove a friend wrong, but both candy and soda. Daaaaaannnnng. Legit!
Well done for him. We are constantly learning higher ways and reasons for doing things. The WHY informs, the WHY transforms. Super happy for him.
Niiice! Props to the mental strength and focus that took! (And never underestimate what a brother will do to prove his sister wrong 😉)
This isn't easy for a 12-year-old ! :) I would say - very difficult. Super proud of him.
He's going to be an awesome entrepreneur someday.
Awesome! Thanks for sharing. Sometimes when a business tells me no I call their competitor out of spite.
I hope to be like him when I grow up!
Bet he can't do it for TWO years! 😉
I love this kid so much! Very well done!

4wI mean if he needs to come trick or treat this year to make up for losses we always have good candy. 🎃 We give out candy to any age that shows up.
