It's not a canary in the coal mine; it's more a STRESEMANN'S BRISTLEFRONT in the Rainforest (i looked that up...) Listen Industry / Federal / State / Local govt - and you American consumers - for 50 years we've been reducing our #manufacturing capacity and this is another small example why. Building durable and commercially succsesful #softgoods #brands , manufacturing and #jobs in the USA is one of the most challenging undertakings in the modern #American #economy . The impact however, when we are successful is measured in TENS OF THOUSANDS of jobs, substantive capital #investment , #workforce training programs and meaningful innovation in both product and manufacturing process. For these reasons it's worth continuing to soldier on - and as we reluctantly say goodbye to Detroit Denim, our spirit and resolve remain focused on the long-term opportunty for manufacturing and brand building in the Americas. “We’re here to celebrate the grand reopening of a warehouse. But it’s not just any warehouse. It’s the magnificent addition to a gem of a company.” So began Covington Mayor Joe Meyer’s remarks today as he indeed helped cut the ribbon on a “warehouse.” Called the “Urban Garage,” the building newly renovated by developer Al Haehnle will be used by video production company The PPS Group, and in particular, its growing film and video archival division, which is called Scene Savers. The new space, located at 429 Greenup St., sits just to the rear of The PPS Group’s home at 424 Scott Blvd. The company moved to Covington in 2008 and has since doubled in size. “We are a 42-year-old company that continues to innovate and evolve as technology continues to change at a rapid pace,” the company said in a statement. “We provide world-class production and archival services.’ Meyer detailed some of the company’s projects, including digitization of video related to the investigation into the assassination of former President Kennedy. As I read about the demolition and fall of Hudson's flagship department store 25 years ago, I couldn't help but draw parallels with today's economic scenario. Once a hub of fine fashions and holiday shopping, Hudson's implosion was a dramatic shift, much like the closures and layoffs many are experiencing today. The vacant space Hudson's left behind has now made way for a new skyscraper, symbolizing rebirth and evolution. Similarly, today's economic hurdles are tough but aren't they also an invitation for innovation and resilience? As we reminisce about the bygone era of Hudson's, it's intriguing to ponder: How are today's challenges shaping the future of business and community in Detroit and beyond?
