The UK BioIndustry Association (BIA) and Diversio have collaborated on a pioneering sector benchmark report focusing on diversity, equity, and inclusion (#DEI) within the UK's #lifesciences and #biotech fields. This report aims to establish a benchmark for the industry, offering individual member companies their specific DEI data while encouraging broader sector participation in tracking #diversity objectives. By fostering collaboration and sustained change, this initiative aims to advance DEI within the workplace through ongoing measurement and goal-setting. At HROS Life Sciences ,we propose leveraging the insights from the BIA's inaugural DEI benchmark report to catalyze sector-wide change in the UK's life sciences and biotech industries. We had a brilliant few days at BIO-EUROPE 2023 in Munich - thank you for all the ideas, discussion and connection. My impressions: 1. (Nearly) everyone is fundraising, and it is extremely challenging. Strategic partnerships are taking longer than ever to come together and VC/PE capital remains guarded, with a few notable exceptions. 2. (1) demands creativity, resourcefulness, focus and a clear sense of prioritisation. Know explicitly who you are, which problem(s) your team is uniquely positioned to solve, and drive. It is often a case of keeping the lights on to let the data and science get to a point where the deals can happen. 3. (2) created an exciting atmosphere in which entrepreneurs, deal-makers and industry are raising the bar higher. Motivating and nurturing teams with strong leadership and culture is critical to maintain momentum in the face of such economic challenge. Remember the end goal we all share: better care for patients. Looking forward to following up with faces old and new. Special appreciation for Neha Pant, PhD, MBA (she/her), for her indomitable energy - it was a joy to finally start discussing Swarm Oncology: a #celltherapy platform for #metastatic #cancer. 💎 Reflecting on BioEurope Spring Partnering Event 💎 Spending three days at BioEurope made it clear: Solid-IO team is on a right track. Decided to share some key insights that resonated with us: 💡Solution: Patient value at the Core Successful ideas and innovations deliver value to all players in the ecosystem, but most importantly, to patients. It's crucial for us that creating patient value remains at the core of our partnerships with future stakeholders. Together, we must continuously seek solutions to maintain this as our shared objective. 💰Funding: It’s About Trust Finding suitable funding can be complex, necessitating the early establishment of two-way trust and mutual understanding of each other's strategies. For us, being as clear as possible about our strategy and plans is vital because we believe it lays the foundation for good partnerships. We aim to engage early in open conversations that promote mutual growth. 🌟Capabilities: Creating a strong foundation The success of a new spinout company depends greatly on its team. We are committed to working with people who share our values. For instance, having a Board that brings diverse skills and experiences is essential for us. Employing data and AI from the start is not just beneficial; it's imperative in today’s world. As we continue to work on our project to create value for cancer patients and society, it’s incredibly encouraging to see that our grand ideas and plans align well with what I learned at BioEurope Spring.
