🎓 From self doubt, to dual degrees 🎓 Just more than four years ago, my academic journey was marked by uncertainty and self-doubt after dropping out of mechatronic engineering at Stellenbosch University in South Africa. As I returned home, the world was hit with the pandemic and life as I knew it came to a halt, offering me a period of reflection. This introspective time sparked the decision that would change the trajectory of my life. Motivated to integrate my passion for rugby with my academic ambitions, I ventured to the United States to attend Arkansas State University. Here, I not only pursued, but excelled in obtaining two demanding degrees—in Engineering Technology and Business Management. The journey was anything but easy; it was filled with both challenges and achievements; graduating Cum Laude in both disciplines within just four years. This milestone is not merely an academic achievement but a personal victory over the doubts that once clouded my future. Supported unwaveringly by my family and guided by my faith in Lord Jesus Christ, I learned that life’s most rewarding paths often require us to "pick ourselves up and dust ourselves off." As I stand proud as an Arkansas State University Alumni, I am a testament to the power of resilience and perseverance. Growing up, I dreamed of walking the halls of Purdue University. Given my undergrad in Mechanical Engineering, and the stature of Purdue as 'stuff of legends' in my field of interest (Fluid Dynamics), I remember anxiously waiting for 'that one e-mail' from Admissions Committee of Purdue, in a hope that they would offer me a spot at their prestigious cohort of Fall of 2009. The mail did come, but it wasn't the one I had been hoping for 😢 I ended up accepting University of Florida's offer (with a generous scholarship), and those 2 years at Gainesville transformed me as a person and fostered the most important bonds of friendships/network in my life. Fast forward to Today: I get a message from an #Applicant that he has received an offer letter from Purdue University, his dream college as well. I couldn't be happier for him! I was equally grateful for the fact that I got to play the role of his career coach on this journey, where our shared manifestations resulted in collaborative success. Full karma moment, I tell you! This 'shared journey' that I take with each of my candidates brings me to two realizations: 1️⃣ Our dreams never truly leave us. They sometimes take on new forms and find fulfillment through the triumphs of those we help along the way. 2️⃣ Mentorship is a two-way street that enriches both the applicant as well as the coach. Such 'shared journeys' also make me appreciate the beauty of human connections as opposed to the new-normal, AI-driven world that we are living in. 🌟 Embracing the Journey: From Struggles to Triumphs 🌟 Hello LinkedIn family, I wanted to take a moment to share a personal chapter of my life—a journey that taught me the true essence of hard work and determination. Back in my school days, I was an average student, struggling with math and science. The turning point came in 8th grade when I faced failure. However, destiny had something remarkable in store for me—a teacher, an engineer from PTCL, who generously decided to teach me for free. Fast forward to 10th grade, and the transformation was incredible—I achieved 83% in my final exams. This experience taught me that hard work is the real essence of success. With newfound motivation, I decided to pursue engineering. While everyone suggested traditional fields like Mechanical or Civil, my curious and rebellious mindset led me to choose Computer Engineering. My childhood fascination with computer games and my curiosity about how they work guided my decision. From that day to today, I've forged a successful path as an engineer. I've walked away from lucrative government jobs and resisted the pressures to pursue traditional paths. Financial stability is essential, but for me, the true driving force is my passion for technology and science. My aspirations reach beyond conventional success metrics. I aim to contribute something meaningful to the progression of human civilization. Call it a little crazy, but my inspiration and motivation stem from a profound curiosity—to understand the creator, the Almighty, the Most Beneficent and Merciful. In this journey, I've learned that it's okay to go against the stream, to follow your passion, and to pursue dreams that may seem unconventional. Success isn't just about financial gains; it's about contributing to something greater than ourselves. He Gave GRE 👨💻Even after a 9.2 CGPA in 10th & 12th, 8.5 in Graduation. 6 years of work experience.👌👌 NYU, Tandon is the 27th Best University in the World with top ranked programs like Aerospace, Chemical, Biomedical & Civil Engineering, Information Systems, Technology, Management & Marketing. From the very start Vivek came across as a sure-footed student, who knew what he wanted. His clear aim was to gain skills which would aid him in adding value to his own business in India. Perhaps, that was the reason why he didn't want to leave any stone unturned to fulfill his Dream Education. There is little to no doubt that the US is the go to place for niche & diverse technical programs which offers a plethora of job opportunities in the future. Therefore, Vivek who came from an Engineering background, was looking for a course which could teach him the intricacies of business & technology. While we had a gazillion choices in many Top-Ranked Universities Vivek wanted just the right course for him. He applied to a couple of best universities & started his test prep. That's when we had to address the elephant in the room. GRE or GRE Waiver? It was quite possible for a student like Vivek to skip the test because he already had a strong profile, yet he chose to take the test. And just like we thought it all was for the best. Because not only did he get admits from some of the best institutes like NYU Tandon, UIUC & RIT but also received huge scholarships. Which wouldn't be possible without a good GRE Score. Our throwback Thursday pics. This was CHISE- Chicago Pre-College Science and Engineering Program's from Fall 2018. We understand our children are struggling with math. The numbers has risen more since the pandemic. We are here to support students in math; with their ambitions in STEM, Trades and other interests; and emotional support. We work with families because we know it takes partnership and we have to work together for the success of the students. Our core students are Chicago Public Schools students and families, but we work with many outside of CPS students as well. Our partners at Boeing University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign University of Notre Dame and so many more help us with this partnership. I recently had the conversation with one of HS sophomores about the importance of failure and how we work and learn with it. One of the most valuable lessons I learned when working at NYU Tandon School of Engineering was from our resident astronaut, Charles Camarda PhD . He taught all of his students that failure is a requirement for success. If you can predict what will fail, that will lead you to what will succeed. We must embrace our failures and learn from them. This. This is my son and his best friends immediately following their high school graduation ceremony, even before they emerged to see their families. We can learn a lot from them, and use it in our personal AND professional lives. *They intentionally see the best in each other, and also kindly and by example challenge each other to grow. *Though they are a very tight-knit group, they intentionally make room for others, and regularly do volunteer work. That takes wisdom beyond their years. *Both their similarities and the array of diversity are unifying, and seen as beneficial. *During stressful times they lean in. Instead of disappearing or going into gossip mode-they surround and support each other. I’ve watched them do this over and over again, through missing a face-to-face freshman year due to Covid-19, intense robotics competitions, full loads of AP courses, college courses while in high school, sports/other activities, and life in general. The list could go on. The point is that, while these young people are best friends and amazing humans, you don’t have to be best friends to be an intentionally kind and supportive person. It is also that there is great hope in the next generation—so while we can recognize some challenges, let’s not forget all the ways they are wonderful. (Note: There are a couple young ladies missing from this photo.
