The Work People You Keep! The people you surround yourself with can truly dictate your success. Surround yourself with true friends who genuinely want to help you improve. I've been thinking a lot about how the people we hang out with - especially in the workplace - influence our lives. The impact they have, whether positive or negative, is massive! I’ve seen this with teenagers, work friends, and personal friends …. you “Level-Up” or “Level-Down” based on who you surround yourself with. What I've Learned: 1. Benchmark: They can create a new baseline for expectations & motivation. Your needle moves (or it creates complacency). 2. Support: They can give you the right scaffolding and support to stretch, experiment, and try new things (or stay stagnant). 3. Growth: They will introduce you to new ideas and opportunities you wouldn't find on your own (or they hold you back). 4. Accountability: They keep you honest, accountable, and push you to stay on track (or let you wander through life). The company you keep and their belief in you is inconsequential! Look at this story about Airbnb, I bet not many of you knew this story 🏩 Something to Think About: Look at the people you spend the most time with. Are they helping you become the person you want to be? Are they moving your needle for new potentials? Are they raising YOUR bar? If not, maybe it's time to rethink some attachments. “You are not a team player”.   Over 10 years ago I applied to work at LinkedIn.   I got through to the final round; meet a member of the team. I was PUMPED! 💪 I thought it was a great meeting…. He even invited me to have lunch and a kilo of burritos at Guzman.  Hard to say no right? However, I unfortunately already had other plans. Little did I know, this was my biggest mistake. Supposedly, he was meeting the rest of the team. I had no idea. As a result… I couldn’t believe it, I received a call from HR shortly after saying these exact words… “Sorry you won’t be progressing; the feedback is you are NOT a team player.” What? I couldn’t believe it. This was my dream job and simply because I had other plans… I was now labelled as NOT a team player. Have you ever had this happen before? I was so confused. Every job I had ever worked at I had been told… “You’re a natural leader.” / “You’re such a people person.” I sat in this place of reflection for far too long. Then it hit me… Why am I letting a guy I met for 25 minutes label me? He doesn’t know me. In fact, I am sure he didn’t want to be in that room with me. And, he was completely wrong about me. … If you have the words of a stranger on repeat in your head and you know them not to be true. Forget them. You must find out what to do and then do it as QUICKLY as possible. That’s how you win. How many times have you told yourself you’ll do something tomorrow? Genuinely answer to yourself HOW MANY TIMES? Count them. If you stopped putting tasks off until tomorrow and instead did them quickly IMMEDIATELY you’d be twice as successful as you are now. If I told you exactly what to do right now to be successful, would you do it now, or tell yourself you’ll do it later? If you can’t remember, then it’s clearly NORMAL for you. Your default setting is SLOW. But SPEED is the key to victory. If you move and act twice as fast as normal you get to live two lives. Double the money, network, accolades.
