How often are we "tasting our own food" as marketers? That's exactly what I did yesterday. Here's how 👇 Social media sites can be a great place to share your open roles and connect with potential applicants. The priority there is finding the right place to post and engage with others. When our team had a Senior Digital Marketing Manager opening come up for one of our clients, I used a template for sharing that job to LinkedIn - which I also helped the team write. It took five minutes to fill in the template from the job description, add a little 🪄 flair 🪄 to it (THE MOST IMPORTANT PART), and push send. The results? Over 2500 impressions so far, and we have a couple screening calls booked with people who saw my post + connected with me after. One thing that's helped me in my journey through marketing roles across sports, staffing, education, and tech? Realizing that the purpose of marketing is the same across the board.... ⭐ Great marketing makes sales easier. ⭐ (And yes, that's worded very carefully for a reason.) In sports? Content, PR, social, IRL activations, getting the team out in the community -- that all drives ticket sales, merch sales, etc. There's a reason why trying to get Savannah Bananas tickets is like getting Eras Tour tix. In staffing? Sharing your stories and expertise on the journey building a personal brand and company brand -- that all makes it easier for candidates to find you, and clients to choose you. In education? There's a million stories happening on campus (and from your alumni around the country) every day that could be told thousands of different ways -- the hard work is just finding the right ones that drive enrollment and fundraising. In tech? There's a lot of complex storytelling and thought leadership around how effectively managing technology enables others to do their best work -- and the stories you choose to tell supports your ability to sell in a competitive landscape. So whether it's more inbound leads, warmer outbound interactions, shorter sales cycles, or more repeat/referral business, there are a LOT of different ways marketing can make sales easier. And if you need to make the leap from one industry to another to grow your career? Just remember that marketing and sales are all the same at the core - and that applies to how you market and sell yourself as a job candidate. #Marketing #Sales #CareerDevelopment

A masterclass in memorable experiences that build raving fans! 🍌 A day at the park with the Savannah Bananas checks every box as far as entertainment for the whole family. Looking beyond the show of it all though, there was a moment, a feeling, I haven't felt at a sports game in ages: A childlike joy and amusement. At no point was I worried about how the game factored into the playoff picture for my team, or how the refs were calling the game, or how coach took a chance with a gutsy call and it didn't pay off and now everyone's gonna be talking about it on the radio and Twitter for weeks, or even just the normal intensity that comes with a playoff game or a rivalry game. It was just a fun day at the ballpark. We enjoyed the DJ finding deep cuts of music from our childhood. We cheered when a fan caught a foul ball - even if that meant an out for the Bananas. We ate hot dogs and wore too little sunscreen and just had FUN with it all. I think it was during the fan warm-up, when a little kid on the field had to lead 16,000 people in stretches and jumping jacks - and we all played along. That's when I realized what this game was all about. We know sports games are meant to be entertainment, but how often are we actually going to a game and being entertained? I don't know how anyone could possibly go to a Banana Ball game and not leave a joyful, raving fan. Or at the very least leave saying "Hey ya know what, that was more fun than I was expecting." -- Some highlights from our day in Bananaland: - We got in the park at 11:30 and there wasn't a quiet minute the whole time to 1 p.m. first pitch. Sing-alongs, merch tosses, trivia, Man-Nana dance auditions, it was a wild time even before the game. - Took a break from the heat to pick up some Powerades and snagged a selfie with the mastermind of it all, Yellow Tux Guy, Jesse Cole. - And the game itself...if you didn't catch it on ESPN this weekend, make sure you find another one this summer, it still managed to feel like I was watching a baseball game even though what I was watching broke every convention of how we know baseball. - Big congrats to Dakota "Stilts" Alderson, now officially the World's Tallest Bills Mafia Member after crushing a table to celebrate the Bananas' weekend sweep!

Now that I've seen it twice, I've gotta say this is becoming a trend I love: building a community around a "hero's journey" content series. The first time was with @thebestmarketingstrategyever on Instagram, where a clever marketing intern named Nicole built a "Smash Army" to cheer on her journey to 500K followers - a milestone she smashed, of course - and earned some pretty crazy rewards for herself in the process. Now, I'm seeing the same thing play out with my buddy Patrick Galvin AKA 3 Putt Patty. He loves the flop shot and built a challenge for himself. And although I'm betting he didn't think about it this way, it's an awesome way to help a growing audience build an emotional connection to him. His early videos got a few hundred views, then days 6-10 started cracking four digits, then day 13 was the one that went viral - it was around 430K when I grabbed this video yesterday. But what's wild is how the virality of that one video, led his newfound audience down a rabbit hole to watch the other days' videos! The least-viewed one is now over 2,000 views, and almost all of them have over five-digit views. What I'm taking away from this: - Content series are simply the way to go. The episodic format makes creation simple and templatized, and increases your surface area for one special "episode" to be your big break. - Find ways to give yourself a stake in the game. Nicole was accountable to her Smash Army to hit her goal so she didn't get fired. Pat's accountable to hit a good flop shot every day so he doesn't break his car window. - The repetition and the emotional stake are how you get people invested in your journey. - Over time, if you do it right, you build the opportunity to become a convener of a community around your series, rather than just a creator sharing that series with an audience. The best job postings I've seen share some really insightful stuff: - Listed growth goals with defined metrics for products the role owns. - 30/60/90 day benchmarks of what success looks like in the role. - A real deep dive on the company culture, core values, how they operate. What's your "peeling mushrooms" moment that you start the day with? In an episode all about finding purpose and appreciation in the finer details, here's five minutes where it all came together. We have Chef Terry, the executive chef of a restaurant with three Michelin stars, starting her day "in the weeds," working with great care and attention - and taking the time to mentor someone who's important to a friend of hers. And of course, there's Richie. At the start of the episode, he's fed up with drying forks for shift after shift, and finds out his ex-wife is getting remarried. In creating excellent experiences for restaurants guests and discovering a greater appreciation for the details, he finds a new motivation and his character turns a new page over. There's pride to be found in those little moments, the finer details, the things that make a deep emotional impact for others. In a world where the focus is constantly on more, faster, better, where can we slow down and appreciate the details? For me, this act of writing about work and life is my "peeling mushrooms" - a moment to reflect, assemble my thoughts, and hopefully it helps others in the process. The roots of Seneca One run deep - and hopefully they stay that way for generations to come. For the many people I've met the last two years who haven't heard this story, it's a good one, I think you'll enjoy! Took it to #TuesdayThoughts back on the escalator. The weekend before I started my role at Lighthouse Technology Services, my dad found a thank-you note I wrote to him as a kid after attending Take Your Kid To Work Day with HSBC at 1 Seneca Street. This was his work tower for many of his 35 years with Marine Midland and HSBC. Now it's my work tower for 2 years and many more to come with Lighthouse. And who knows, maybe some day in the future, my son will work here too! He's got a few decades to get there though 😂

Quick background on why I'm here: "Live With Lighthouse" made it 21 episodes as a LinkedIn Live show you could watch back on YouTube. Did 7 more as a pre-produced video/audio podcast. And while all 28 conversations were great and I'm so fortunate to have connected with these incredible guests, the show concept didn't feel like it clicked anymore, it became just another Q&A podcast. I could feel myself losing creative momentum with it, and that was reflected in the data around the show. So now I'm setting out to gamify the traditional Q&A podcast. Would love your thoughts on "Level Up With Lighthouse" - powerups, builds, and tips and tricks to level-up your talent and technology game. 10-15 seconds: one-liner hook and intro 1-2 minutes: intro the show and our guest. In the future, when I'm not building a proof-of-concept from home, I'll probably film this in-person in our Game Room. 30-40 minutes: work through different "Levels" of conversation 2 minutes: rapid fire fun questions What's not here now that would make you want to watch a full episode? Some things I'm thinking of: 🍄 A sound effect and lower-third that pops up to call attention to a specific takeaway that gets discussed 🕹️ Visual changes in the design template as we work through different "Levels" of conversation 🎮 While it's a pre-recorded show, I still want to find a way to make it interactive/multiplayer. Maybe I could ask friends to record a short video asking a question for the guest, and play that as part of the show? 👓 Before anyone asks, yes, I will straighten my glasses/get new ones before we start recording this for real lol I wanna hear it all. I want to keep pushing my boundaries. And this is me getting this out of my head (and out of my Descript drafts) hoping the universe can help me get unstuck!
