Dear Professor Jochen Menges and Dr. Lauren Howe, I recently read your insightful article, “Research: How Family Motivates People to Do Their Best Work,” and wanted to express my appreciation for the depth and relevance of your findings. The notion that family can serve as a powerful motivator in the workplace resonates deeply, especially in illustrating how personal life and professional performance are intertwined. The examples you provided, including Serena Williams’ motivation drawn from her daughter, eloquently demonstrate the universal impact of family. The quote from Maya Angelou, “I sustain myself with the love of family,” particularly struck a chord with me. Coming from a cross-cultural background, balancing motherhood with my Sarawakian and Swiss heritage, I personally understand how the love and support of family can drive one’s choices and motivations at work. However, I would like to offer some additional considerations that could further enrich the discussion and application of your research:
