Our Azure Quantum Elements platform is a significant step in this direction, offering two new groundbreaking capabilities: Generative Chemistry for the exploration of novel molecular structures at an unprecedented scale and speed, and Accelerated DFT for simulating chemical catalysts and other complex molecular structures using core innovation developed by Microsoft Research.   In our work with Unilever, they're harnessing the power of Azure Quantum Elements to drive forward scientific discovery. Unilever DataLab—a leading collaboration platform for in-silico R&D innovation built on Azure—is a prime example of digital transformation in action. From unlocking the secrets of our skin’s microbiome to reducing the carbon footprint of a multi-billion-dollar business, Unilever is redefining what it means to be a consumer goods company in the modern world with leading science.   Earlier this year, we demonstrated with Quantinuum the most reliable logical qubits on record, further advancing the state-of-the-art for quantum computing. Last November, we announced the beginning of an ambitious journey for Microsoft and Photonic Inc. We set out to accomplish three collaborative goals to realize our shared vision of revolutionizing quantum discovery and paving the way for a scalable quantum network using photonically linked silicon spin qubits. Today, we’re sharing the news about a groundbreaking achievement that accomplishes the first of those three goals: establishing entanglement between two separate quantum devices.  Using their pioneering spin-photon architecture, Photonic successfully demonstrated distributed quantum entanglement by teleporting a CNOT gate over telecom fibers, a feat that demonstrates the potential of leveraging existing telecom networks for quantum communication over long distances. In a recent visit to one of Microsoft’s cutting-edge quantum labs, Dr. Dominic Walliman (Domain of Science YouTube channel) had the opportunity to see firsthand and learn about the innovative strides we’re making in quantum computing. During his visit, he met with several of our quantum experts—Drs. I enjoyed talking to the students at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) this morning. I appreciate Joan Rubin and Ignacio Vazquez from MIT, as well as Charles Iheagwara, an MIT alumnus and Microsoft colleague, for inviting me to speak. My presentation was about “Navigating the Future: Engineering Leadership in the Era of AI.” The students of MIT System Design and Management and MIT Sloan School of Management asked great questions and shared their innovative ideas. And I was happy to meet some Microsoft alumni who are studying here. Artificial intelligence is changing the world, and engineering leaders need to be ready for it. I learned a lot from today’s conversation and I’m optimistic about the future. Thank you, MIT, for this valuable opportunity.

Today marks a historic milestone in quantum computing, as Microsoft and Quantinuum demonstrate the most reliable logical qubits on record. This breakthrough, with a logical error rate 800x better than the physical error rate, signifies a giant leap from the noisy intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) level (Level 1 – Foundational) to Level 2 – Resilient quantum computing.   This progress is significant as logical qubits are only useful when they have a better error rate than physical qubits themselves. The number of physical qubits is a misleading metric; it’s not how many qubits, it’s how good they are and how resilient the quantum system is to errors.   Using the logical qubits we created, we were able to successfully perform multiple active syndrome extractions, which is when errors are diagnosed and corrected without destroying the logical qubits. Active syndrome extraction helps quantum computers stay reliable even when operations are imperfect.   With the promise of a hybrid supercomputing system powered by these reliable logical qubits, we’re paving the way for scientific and commercial breakthroughs that were once deemed impossible.  This achievement is a testament to the power of collaboration and the collective advancement of quantum hardware and software.   You can learn more from my post on the Official Microsoft Blog https://lnkd.in/gnDfcUV6 and the companion technical post on the Azure Quantum blog by Dennis Tom and Krysta Svore: https://lnkd.in/gMRVPG3s. #quantum #quantumcomputing #azurequantum
