Exciting developments ahead for HS2!    Approximately £5bn in contracts are up for grabs, covering tracks, power, signalling, and the landmark network control centre.   Key milestones in 2024 include work commencement on Curzon Street station and the breakthrough of the Chilterns tunnel, spanning 10 miles.   With 11 contracts in tender, the UK's construction, engineering, and rail sectors are in for substantial opportunities.   Three contracts focus on track system design, logistics, and installation, including a maintenance depot in Calvert, Buckinghamshire, accommodating HS2 services at 225mph.   Another contract targets a high-tech signalling system for faster and more frequent services. The high-voltage power system contract aims to deliver zero-carbon electricity.   Also, the selection process for HS2's £275m 'nerve centre' at Washwood Heath, Birmingham, involves Vinci/Keltbray and VolkerFitzpatrick/VolkerRail.   Physical construction along the route is set to commence from 2026/7 after the conclusion of main civil engineering work.    #HS2 #RailInfrastructure #ConstructionOpportunities #EngineeringInnovation

Office of Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced a $142 billion investment into #Texas infrastructure, including $100 billion earmarked for the Texas Department of Transportation state roadways plan. We know that the #infrastructure sector has developed a reputation as a "laggard" when it comes to improving productivity and adapting to change. How did we get here and what can we do collectively to reverse this? As pointed out by Australian Constructors Association (ACA) CEO Jon Davies, closing the infrastructure productivity gap would result in savings in the many billions of dollars as well as raise national productivity levels to where they were in the 1990s. However, the focus on getting the "lowest price at the tender box" has resulted in the myriad of challenges the sector faces today. Productivity - doing more with the resources we have - and changes to procurement approaches that prioritise the best value over the lowest cost are essential if we are to have the ability to continue delivering the critical infrastructure needed to support #liveability, #sustainability, #mobility and #security. https://lnkd.in/gpZBYyrg

🚄 Exciting Developments in HS2: £5bn Contracts to be awarded this year.. HUGE year for HS2, who are set to unleash around £5bn worth of contracts, marking a significant step forward in the high-speed rail project. With peak construction on the horizon, this year promises major milestones and opportunities for the construction, engineering, and rail sectors in the UK. Key Contracts: Track Systems and Maintenance Depot: Three contracts will encompass the design, logistics, and installation of the track system, along with a maintenance depot at Calvert in Buckinghamshire, supporting HS2 services at speeds of up to 225mph. High-Tech Signalling System: Revolutionizing rail communication, a contract will be awarded for a cutting-edge signalling system that directly feeds information into the cab, enhancing service speed and frequency by eliminating traditional lineside signals. High-Voltage Power System: Another crucial contract will focus on the high-voltage power system, ensuring HS2 runs on zero-carbon electricity sourced from the National Grid. Washwood Heath Nerve Centre: A £275m project, HS2's nerve centre at Birmingham, will play a central role in the project. Vinci/Keltbray and VolkerFitzpatrick/VolkerRail are vying for the design and build contract for this 30-hectare site housing the rolling stock maintenance depot and network control centre. 🌐 Eleven contracts are currently out to tender, expected to be awarded this year.
