This morning, my daughter Sierra Giambalvo and I had the privilege of attending the SMU Cox School of Business Southwest Venture Forum breakfast. The topic was "Women in Venture Capital" and the panelists were Jesse Draper, Co-Founder, Halogen Ventures & Kelly Ann Winget, Alternative Wealth Partners, LLC. These two were as brilliant as they were entertaining. I could have listened to them all morning. As Jesse Draper states "Invest in women. We’re not a f#$!-ing charity. The Women in Safe Homes fund is proud to be providing homes for women and children facing housing crisis. So far, the fund has handed 43 properties over to its housing partners – a range of expert organisations across England and Scotland – that are also providing each woman with person-led, wraparound support. Thanks to the £29 million in capital raised from the 20 impact investors into the fund, the ambition is for it to purchase around 120 properties in total: primarily family homes but also a small number of emergency refuges, and to house over 1,000 women and children over the fund’s lifetime.
