Me at 16! I don’t look much different now, just (much) older! I listened to Depeche Mode & worked hard for my GCSEs! That was my life back then! I had already been through a lot at this stage, I was not far out of the other side of my juvenile heart attack and life saving surgeries. I had already picked up copious amounts of unconscious conditioning that would underpin decisions I made going forward in life. (We all have at this age!) I didn’t yet know that I was going to start getting blood clots for the remainder of my teens & spend my life on blood thinners. I didn’t yet know that I was essentially unemployable because of my health. I didn’t yet know within 5 years if be married. I didn’t know that I would be the mother to two amazing children. I didn’t yet know that I would run several successful businesses in my life time, fuelled by the unemployable element above! Or become a single parent in my 20s! Or stumble into an abusive relationship & experience complete financial ruin in my 30s. Or go on to an amazing man in my 40s! I didn’t know that I would experience burn out because the ‘need’ to make money and prove myself would override everything. I didn’t know about money mindset and how that would have an impact on my decisions in adulthood. And I don’t know that it IS possible to have a successful business and a wonderful life simultaneously. And most of the wonderful female coaches & therapists I help haven’t mastered that yet either. Many of us are still running programming that we inherited in our earlier years. And this of course isn’t serving the 30 + us the same as our 16 year old self. Can you imagine making the big decisions you need to make for your business, from your 16 year old self’s beliefs? Yet on many levels we unconsciously do. Every day. Yet we wonder why we are not getting the results we desire. The bigger income months, the quality time to have fun. The previous time with our children before they fly the nest. Your money mindset involves so much more than just money! Today my 8-year old daughter managed to save a work leave for me! And that led me wondering! As parents, we always want our infants to start talking, walking, or eating soon. In fact, we celebrate these milestones hugely! But do we continue doing so while they are growing up. Soon the protective umbrella takes over. And the joy of celebrating their independence gets wrapped under the concerns for their safety. However, these young explorers keep having many victories which are big milestones for them. The first time they go up and down an elevator on their own, the first time they go to or return from the park on their own, the first time they decide what to wear by themselves, the first time they shop something, the first time they stay at home by themselves, the first we involve them into a decision making, and many more. They keep conquering these new milestones even if we are not noticing. These go a long way in building their confidence, in understanding and taking responsibility, in problem solving, in decision making and in amplifying their positive self-image. Imagine the immense pride and empowerment a child gets with these self-achievements. It is a reminder that our role as parents is not just to protect them, but also to empower them to navigate the world on their own. Each first-time achievement builds their confidence and instils a sense of accomplishment. It shows them that they are capable of handling new situations and taking on challenges. Reminds me of the powerful phrase “Give someone a fish, and you feed them for a day. Teach someone to fish, and you feed them for a lifetime”. And I think we can safely add "Teach someone to teach others how to fish and you feed a community for a lifetime"! And such teaching moments are all around us all the time. The need is to just grab them and let our children experience these age-appropriate victories often. Of course, while allowing our children to take small steps toward independence, we must also acknowledge that there may be hiccups and roadblocks along the way. Not everything will go right, every time. Unless life-threatening, these too are learning opportunities. Even we grown-ups mess up and big time, but we learn and step forward. The hiccups make growing up meaningful and lay a foundation for future success. These teach them that setbacks are a natural part of life and that they have the ability and resilience to overcome them. Whether it's completing household chores, managing their own schedules, or making decisions about their activities, each responsibility contributes to their personal growth. And towards the much talked about 21st century skills! Of course as parents, we continue to provide support and guidance when our children face challenges. We can help them break down problems into manageable steps, encourage them to think creatively, and offer reassurance. ⛔ Stop saving money for your child. Start investing instead. My daughter is 9 months old today (pinch me please!) 🥰🥳 Which means we have at least another 17 years, before she turns 18. If we save 200€ every month she would get 43,200€. Already a good amount - But it can be better! We choose to take advantage of the time we have and invest. At an 8% yearly return she would get 89,880.58€. And even if she keeps half of the money invested, she could still use the rest for: • Travels • Studies • Starting a business • Down-payment for an apartment • Or whatever she has in mind at that point   .... The rest can keep working for her. And by the time she's 58 she would have: 976,300.00€ without her ever needing to invest another cent. You see, simply by investing rather than saving, we're making sure she has double the options. And all we had to do was invest 200€ every month for 18 years. Just a brief note to wish all my friends and colleagues a very Happy and Healthy New Year. I think the tradition is to refer to a Prosperous New Year, but wealth doesn’t necessarily bring happiness. Family and true friends are a wealth that money cannot buy. Retirement gives me more time to reflect on what is most important. In or working lives we rightly give our all to fulfil our objectives. Sadly, as you get older the frequency of paying tribute to those longer with us becomes more regular. Spending time with your family & dear friends should never be deferred, as we never know what is ahead of us. I had a both humorous and thought provoking depiction of how that could be. I was with my 8-year granddaughter, she was chatting away and asked me. did I miss my dogs along with my mother & father who are no longer with us. I said of course I do. She said do you think they will all be together in heaven, I said I am sure they will be. Yes, she said, I think so too and don’t be sad, as you will see them again soon!! That certainly hit a nerve, true but put my life in perspective! Children have a simplistic view on life and say it as it is! It is so sad to see all 4 corners of the world suffering political and social unrest. Wars rarely solve issues, and it is the mostly innocent that suffer the most. We are supposedly a sophisticated and intelligent race, but it seems mankind has now lost true values of living together in harmony. I have always tried portraying the importance of ‘Do unto others as you would have them do unto you’. When my granddaughter told me she was being bullied at school, it brought to focus how children experience the trauma of others not thinking of the impact of their actions and what they would feel if they themselves were the subject of bullying. Sadly bullying nowadays takes different forms and often is administered through social media platforms and I fear more impactful & hurtful than the playground ‘face to face’ we may have encountered in our youth. I would like to see more realism and support for a proper balanced energy transition. I have long been an advocate for a realistic energy mix. Too many individuals ebb and flow, moving support, especially politically, to be seen as ‘Green’. I think all logical industry individuals understand the need for a transition, but it needs to be at a pace than doesn’t suddenly turn its back on fossil fuels. We will need oil & gas for many years ahead, albeit at a gradually diminishing contribution, so being provided by the UK, rather than importing surely has to be the logical strategy. But with the lengthy run up to an Autumn election, there will no doubt be many debates and posturing to win votes!        I always treated work as an extension of a circle of friends and vice versa. I have colleagues I have known for many years & although we no longer do business together, still have a friendship based on a mutual respect, so thanks to all that still keep in touch. Best Wishes

Do you know what your values are? Do you have a mission statement? I’m not talking about work, or your personal life.. but your family. Do you have a family mission statement? Do you make values-driven decisions as a family? I'm just getting back from coffee with a friend who also works with families, and we were discussing the decision tree most of us have when figuring out our family schedule. We want our kids to have awesome experiences, learn new things and follow their passion, be social and get along with others and be good people. We also need childcare and them to be busy and want them to have experiences we couldn’t. All of these factors are real. And, if we overdo it, it’s the perfect storm of extreme stress, anxiety, and overwhelm. We can’t do everything. And we can’t follow every single “rule”. If everyone else has their kids signed up for little league and guitar and tennis and chess and that cool ninja class… do you need to also? Maybe. Maybe not. When we make decisions like this, we need to get really clear on what we gain in this decision as well as what we lose. So, how do we do that? You need a family mission statement, and a clear set of values to go along with them. You need to know what’s important to you (and who is important to you and your kids!) and what’s less important so you can make choices. You need to know that every single time you sign up your child for after school care or after school dance team or guitar lessons, you’re deciding what they won’t be doing in addition to what they will. There’s not one right or wrong way to make choices for your kids. The only right thing to do is to get clear on what’s most important to you, and what you can leave behind. My grandma (a teacher for 60 years) always said “happy kids learn”. My dad (a pediatrician) always says that all kids really need is “common sense and love”. Everything else is optional. There are a million great ways to raise a resilient, capable, independent kid. Each family needs their own decision tree based on what matters to you. Based on who your kids are, their strengths, and what’s most important to them and you. Based on how you want your kids to grow up, how you want them to end up, and how you want your relationship to be in the future. What do you think of the picture I shared in this post? This picture has been shared by a lot of people in the last months with different perceptions about it (although positive ones ). I have read significant posts about it. Yet I have not seen reasons to make a post until now. A big brother of mine shared it on his status, while viewing, I paused for some minutes on the picture. I have a different interpretation of the picture, please permit me to share. 👇 You would agree with me that the picture depicts a boy who saw a beautiful future ahead of him despite his looks or present circumstances. Now, let's see it from a different view. Every child around you has a look like the boy before the mirror( is not what you think, I will explain). The look before that mirror has a lot to do with MINDSET. Every child you meet out there has a view of a great future. Children have thought of footballers, doctors, nurses, engineers, hairstylists, fashion designers, business tycoons, and many more they admire and want to be like. Yet they can not achieve that without their environment. ...You are what makes their environments. Even though they have this picture of a beautiful future like that boy I shared, you the adults around them, play a greater role in making them actualized those dreams through little efforts like... 📌Appreciating their little efforts. 📌 Getting connected to them emotionally. 📌Giving them a sense of belonging and acceptance. 📌Being firm and against unruly behaviour. 📌Creating a healthy experience with them at every little moment they are with you. 📌Being after their process of growth and not hellbent on their results. 📌 Teaching them to take responsibility for their actions and their environment. Let me stop here. No one attains success without the impact of his/her environment. This is why we all(Parents, teachers, and the community) need to work together to MAKE EVERY CHILD'S GROWTH COUNT. Remember an African Proverb that says "It takes a whole village to raise a child " I know you have been putting in your best to help that child around you thrive. Your legacy is important, just not in the way you think... For a lot of people it basically refers to "how we are remembered" or "what we leave behind" Lets take this from a parents perspective; "How your kids will remember you and what you leave behind for them". Now that can of course, be a possitive or negative legacy. You can leave behind insecurities, toxic traits or bad habits that can take years to resolve. If we focused purely on the positive, for a lot of career or business driven parents there is this focus on supporting their kids financially, leaving behind money/wealth to support them. The problem with a focus on financial legacy is that generational wealth typically fades away after 3 generations. A study on 3,200 families found that 7/10 families tend to lose their fortune by the 2nd gen, while 9/10 lose it by the 3rd gen. If you think about it... so much of what you leave behind will be preserved by the partners your grandkids or great grandkids marry, or the direct education they get on preserving what you leave them... you can't directly control that. It's also interesting to consider that most people rarely talk about or think about their "great grandparents", most weren't lucky enough to meet or remember them. Have a think now, can you remember their personality? What they were like? What were they passionate about? Can you remember all of their names? I'd argue that for most people the legacy of memories fades after 3 generations too. So why do humans obsess over legacy? I think this can be tied into a basic human fear of impermanence, of not existing or of being forgotten. It could be tied to ego, this idea that we want to remain important and relevant even after we have gone. I read something the other day that really stuck with me: "Legacy isn’t what you leave behind for people it’s what’s you leave behind in people" It reminded me of a Bruce Lee quote: "Instead of buying your kids all the things you never had, you should teach them all the things you were never taught" Education therefor, is the most important thing we can leave behind for our kids. The greatest form of education isn't academia, it's morals, traits, virtues. These things are the greatest legacy. They transcend generations and are often passed on from one to the next. I remember my grandparents and great grandparents, not for what they left behind, not even for the things they loved, their passions or pursuits or careers - but for the stories of their character. In particular what they went through, how they survived huge challenges, like WW2 and occupation, their resilience, their virtues, how they helped other humans. What are your thoughts on legacy?
