Here's the obligatory year end wrap up, where with a little help we reflect on what has been accomplished and set out our goals and dreams for the year ahead. I’m not really one for looking backward, but sometimes it helps focus your future. A year that started with a horribly botched move to Singapore, throwing life, work and family into chaos, could easily have been defined by that trauma. Instead it has been defined by happiness, positivity and achievement. We made a list about it. 🥇 Redefined what success means for my family, and me ❤️ Rediscovered a passion for what I do 😃 Surrounded myself with inspiring people who bring me happiness in work and in life ⚖ Reclaimed my birth name from the corporate machine  🚀 Started three new companies, with another on the way in Q1 2024 👶 Added to the family unit, no immediate plans for another on the way in 2024 👩🎓 Kicked off our digital development academy that will produce the industry leaders of the future While everyone has their own motivation and truth, I am more content than I ever have been with mine: 𝙉𝙤 𝙖𝙢𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙩 𝙤𝙛 𝙢𝙤𝙣𝙚𝙮 𝙘𝙖𝙣 𝙗𝙪𝙮 𝙝𝙖𝙥𝙥𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨. [Beginning of post here: https://lnkd.in/eTJ4JqPW] Three funds later, with the bliss of retroactive perspective breaking through the fog of busyness, I look back at what we accomplished with immense pride. We built our team, strategy, systems and reputation from scratch, with Monk's Hill Ventures now a tier 1 VC in the region. We got the vote of confidence of top global LPs and our cap table mirrors the best funds in the world. We worked with some of the most inspiring entrepreneurs and teams, helping build hugely impactful companies, some of which employ tens of thousands of people. 40+ companies that are bringing access to healthcare, education, financial markets, insurance, basic goods, business tools, sustainability, information, etc. to their customers, often for the first time. I packed my bags again this summer, bidding farewell to Asia and to MHV, with a heart full of emotion and of colourful memories. Being handed a termsheet to negotiate my second day on the job - baptism by fire, they call it! Speaking at Thai demo days that felt more like massive rock concerts than tech events. Flying to Manila for a board meeting the day after my wedding while my husband honeymooned with his dad. Taking calls from a confinement hotel room for 2 weeks with a crawling baby at my feet. Eating street food in Saigon on tiny plastic stools between visits to yet another tech outsourcing center. Too many anecdotes to relay. Also too many people to thank! So I will simply thank my partners: Peng T. Ong and Kuo-Yi Lim (林国毅), of course. Justin Nguyen, my favorite work twin and buddy. Susli Lie, originally one of the first founders I worked with. I have learned a ton from each of you individually and have been blessed to work with you. And with each chapter that closes a new one that opens! I have now moved back to Europe as a family of four, setting up our home base in the beautiful city of Barcelona. I am excited to be back in this part of the world, close to family and old friends, where the languages I speak are not completely useless and where nature is familiarly Mediterranean. Tomorrow is back-to-school day for me as I start a new job at Personio. I am stoked to go back to operating full-time, alongside an outstanding team that I have gotten to know and deeply respect over the past few months. This should be fun!

Challenges are fairly easy to talk about. It's easier to share. Failure is a hard thing to talk about. We're closing graftDAGGER on 30 August. It’s been very hard to make the decision to close, though it’s been months in the making. I have my investors, my team, to think about. But, I think we’ve all agreed that this is the best path. We expanded in the middle of the pandemic when we thought we saw a light at the end of the tunnel, and thought that we would be able to grow and scale with the reopening of the world. But, while we anticipated and pivoted well into Covid, we did a bad job pivoting out of Covid. Lessons are really always learned in hindsight. During Covid, we had a captive audience, because people couldn't leave, and could only spend in Singapore. A few lessons learned from the opening up, and other untoward circumstances: 1. People who could afford our cuisine and drink prices can afford to travel, and revenge travel was vengeful 2. There have been a net increase of more than 1,500 establishments in Singapore since Covid - the competition and new openings mean you have to find ways to keep top of mind 3. People used to travel (say to Keong Siak) to eat and drink because they were stuck at home. They now just go down to the places below their offices 4. A story for another day, but a few days after our media preview and right before we were to launch Dagger, our team was busted for doing drugs on premise. It was a blow to the business because we lost the whole team, and a whole stream of revenue overnight. Life is random. We have pivoted by focusing more on corporates, but to be honest, it's not enough. So, we're closing one outlet to focus on Jekyll & Hyde, work on covering debts, and building a sustainable model with one outlet. Ambition and scale can be good, but sometimes, a combination of decisions, luck and life don't work out the way you want it to. We have overcome many challenging years until today. However, 2023 was on a different level... First, at the beginning of the year, we experienced one of the greatest #disasters in the history of Türkiye. Then, we witnessed an extremely tense and high-pressure #election process. As you might predict and know, the market froze for a long time. But I believe this is my character and, in fact, the character of all Henley & Partners - The Firm of Global Citizens®. Not giving up. Not turning back from the path you've taken. Even in the toughest times, focusing on 'how to become better.' Being part of an organization with such a warrior spirit is one of my greatest fortunes. 2023 tested this character, and it was a year where we successfully passed this test!!! We moved to a new office in a historical building and expanded our team in Istanbul and İzmir. I had the pleasure of working with our Chairman Dr. Christian H. Kaelin closely on multiple projects, Dr. Christian H. Kaelin is a natural mentor by his actions and the way he approaches and works. Dominic Volek is the true manager who always lightens the way when there is a dark on the way to success. Elif ELUSTU KILIC is the person who would support you with her full power relentlesly. The results are; - I completed the 2023 as #1 Client Advisor Globally - Türkiye office is now one of the regional offices working with HQ directly - My teammates whom I am mentoring Nubar Veliyeva, IMCM and Arzu İzancı achieved extreme results. - Our back-office did an extremely good job with the submission results. With my Executive Coach Mehmet Edin, when planning the goals of 2023, we summarized the goals with three words “#Emotionally #Healthy #Growth” And we achieved this together, in personal, professional, and spiritual fields. Mehmet Edin and I are talking about “#DisruptiveChange” and "#SustainableBusinessDevelopment" this year. One of my personal goals is a build an organic sustainable farm to produce my own family’s food supply and spend my time in the farmhouse with family and friends to promote re-migration from the cities.
