Reflections from Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity Last week at Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity was incredible. So exciting (and exhausting). I wanted to share a few quick takeaways from my time connecting, learning, and sharing with some awesome innovators who are shaping the advertising and communications industry: The Power of Data Data was a theme that ran through everything at Cannes. Without data, you can't see the full picture. No one has enough first-party data alone, so collaboration is key to understanding customers better. By partnering with others, you can build more effective strategies that boost both brand and business value. Today’s tools help us integrate diverse data sources, optimize campaigns in real-time, and measure impact precisely. Data-driven strategies are now essential for success. B2B Marketing is Having a Moment B2B Marketing is evolving with a stronger emphasis on creativity and storytelling. One of my favorite moments at Cannes was watching the LinkedIn documentary Beyond the Business: The Human Side of B2B Marketing. This is only the second year in the festival's 78-year history that B2B has had its own category. Tom Stein's storytelling in the film shows how innovative B2B strategies can shape industries and make a real difference. The documentary reminds us that B2B marketing is about connecting with people, not just businesses. There was hardly a dry eye when it was over. The panel discussion with the director afterward deepened the conversation about the human side of B2B marketing and offered valuable insights into the industry's future. It inspired me to bring more compelling storytelling into my own work. Relationships are Everything Cannes is not just about networking; it's about forming meaningful relationships, learning, and sharing ideas. The pace of relationship-building and deal-closing at Cannes is off the charts. Planned meetings and spontaneous discussions lead to fruitful collaborations and deals, showing the importance of being present and engaged in such a dynamic environment. The festival was a powerful reminder of the importance of connecting, learning, and sharing—with both data and people—to foster more impactful, innovative, and effective marketing strategies.
