I’ve just got back from a few days in Tokyo. I was there for meetings, including our first board meeting of the year and also the Suntory Global Conference. This is a very special event where we bring together nearly 1,000 of our top leaders from across the whole Suntory Holdings Limited group. We heard from leaders of the business units on the overarching theme of the day, sustainability. Many companies talk about sustainability, but for Suntory it has been at our heart since our founding and foundational to our performance and growth. We’ve always been driven by our values of “growing for good” and giving back to society, and we talk a lot about our business being sustained by the gifts of water and nature. The conversations reminded me that through all the noise around sustainability, in its fullest sense, it shouldn’t be controversial, nor just an ancillary program. It’s just good business. It’s good business to care deeply about the environmental impact of your business, and how you can ensure you have the resources you and your consumers need long term to thrive. It’s good business to care about being able to attract, retain and motivate the absolutely best diverse talent. It’s good business to be mindful of the impact of your products and how they are used. None of this should be a debate! It’s just good business and good leadership, and I’m so proud of Suntory and how they have led the way on sustainability and put it at the heart of how we work. And today on the 125th anniversary of our founding it’s a particularly good day to celebrate this!
well said Jessica! it's like they say, "we can do well by doing good." 🙌 🙌 🙌
Nice to see the simplicity of traditional Japanese management thinking be applied, and resonating, overseas. Keep it up!
A very nice post.
