2024 Forbes America's Top Wealth Management Teams Best-in-State
The 2024 Forbes ranking of America's Top Wealth Management Teams Best-In-State, developed by SHOOK Research, is based on an algorithm of qualitative criteria, mostly gained through telephone and in-person due diligence interviews, and quantitative data. This ranking is based upon the period from 3/31/2022 to 3/31/2023 and was released on 01/09/2024. Advisor teams that are considered must have one advisor with a minimum of seven years of experience, have been in existence as a team for at least one year, have at least 5 team members, and have been nominated by their firm. The algorithm weights factors like revenue trends, assets under management, compliance records, industry experience and those that encompass best practices in their practices and approach to working with clients. Portfolio performance is not a criteria due to varying client objectives and lack of audited data. Out of approximately 10,100 team nominations, 4,100 advisor teams received the award based on thresholds. This ranking is not indicative of an advisor's future performance, is not an endorsement, and may not be representative of individual clients' experience. Neither Raymond James nor any of its Financial Advisors or RIA firms pay a fee in exchange for this award/rating. Raymond James is not affiliated with Forbes or Shook Research, LLC. Diversity, for me, is about diversity of thought and perspective. Generational diversity is an important factor. To further encourage diversity of age at board level, we need to think beyond NED positions necessarily being a retirement job or something you can only pursue towards the end of your professional career. Proactively supporting initiatives such as Board Apprentice and proactively thinking about age diversity within our own boards.
The UK Spencer Stuart Board Index pulls together information on the top FTSE 150 companies over the previous 12 months. For 2022 it reported the average age of a director to be 61.1 years old. Auto Trader and DarkTrace had the most Directors under 50 at 44%.

At Capital League, some of us were fortunate to have attended the Berkshire Hathaway AGM in Omaha over several years. We all came back mesmerised and in awe of this amazing company and unique AGM.
Most of us wondered why a billions of dollar worth investment company was not located in New York, next to Wall Street. That has been a conscious decision of Warren Buffet & Charlie Munger – to not get distracted by market ‘noise’. Study the fundamentals, ignore the markets.
Charlie said that he’s “never been able to predict accurately. I don’t make money predicting accurately. We just tend to get into good businesses and stay there.” And true to his word, they have stayed invested in companies like Coca Cola & Amex for over 30 years!
For a few days before and after the AGM, the airport, hotels, restaurants, bars would be teeming with AGM attendees. Many considered it an annual pilgrimage. All had stories to share about Warren and Charlie. Charlie was widely known for his dry wit and depth of wisdom.
The AGM was held in a convention center with a capacity of over 17000. Warren and Charlie would sit center stage and answer questions for 5 hours! What struck me was their amazing memory, depth of knowledge, stamina and total lack of pomp & ceremony. Anyone could ask anything. No recording was allowed. Warren would address a query in detail over 5-10 minutes and Charlie would summarise in one witty sentence. We will miss you Charlie. RIP.

💚🖤❤️Travers J. Bell, Jr along with Willie Daniels co-founded first black-owned investment firm, Daniel’s and Bell, on New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) in 1971. The firm started with $175,000 is assets, but with Bell’s prior experience, that amount grew rapidly from series of successful investment decisions. Daniels later ventured off from the firm to enter the restaurant industry.
Bell made it his business to give back to the community. His firm specialized in underwriting securities for burgeoning minority-owned businesses and municipal bonds for small Southern towns at a time when few institutional investors were interested in these opportunities. By backing firms, individuals, and towns that had been overlooked by a largely white Wall Street, Bell found a successful market while also spurring development in previously poor and underserved parts of the country.
At the time of Bell’s passing in 1988, the firm had grew to the net asset of $15Million. His legacy lives on by his son, Gregory S Bell (writer at Black Enterprise) author of “In the Black: A History of African Americans on Wall Street.”
