Deputy Director: NC Office of Science, Technology & Innovation

I am so exited to share that today I start a new position in the North Carolina Department of Commerce as the Deputy Director for the Office of Science, Technology & Innovation (OSTI). For the past 3+ years I was honored to be a member of the Advanced Functional Fabrics of America (AFFOA) family in progressing the mission of the Manufacturing Innovation Institute to advance the maturity of exciting US domestic textile technologies to the defense and commercial markets. I will miss working so closely with the AFFOA team and the inspiring community we served. On a personal note...15 years ago, as I was just finishing my PhD from NC State, I met the team at OSTI and I imagined as to how I would have to craft my career to join a team who's mission is to 'improve the economic well-being and quality of life for all North Carolinians'. Since, my journey has been filled with friendships, stress, and amazing experiences. Speed ahead to now, it means so much to realize a planned journey coming together and continuing my service to the state I am still proud to call home!

Jess - so bittersweet! I can't tell you how much you will be missed here. But I am so excited for you on this next step! Although, I might be even more excited for NC for getting such an incredibly talented and bold leader to help drive this effort. Let's stay connected. Congratulations to you and congratulations to the great state of North Carolina!
