Head of Marketing, Interactive Gaming | Top 40 Under 40 Emerging Leaders in Gaming, Global Gaming Business Magazine
Early in my career, a C-level executive asked me about my college degee, and when I told him Graphic Design, I clearly remember the laugh in my face and being told it was a “throwaway degree.” In the past 15 years my career has significantly deviated from hardcore/metal band T-shirt designer, to a handful of marketing leadership roles. I attribute any modest career success I’ve had to my start as a Graphic Designer, specifically in the hardcore/metal music genre. It was an uphill battle drumming up clients. Bands weren’t exactly dying to give their money to a woman; many assumptions made on anything I could produce would be pink, girly and just not “badass” enough. Several thousands of late night photoshop hours later, I had a portfolio of work from some of the top bands in the industry. Point I am trying to (hopefully) make: whenever someone has assumed less of me, it’s only further propelled me to prove them wrong. Never lose your metal 🤘🏻#marketing #leadership #graphicdesign
My degree is graphic design and sculpture (with a minor in art history). I think that being a self-made marketing director and not an MBA educated one gives me an edge. I don't know what the text books say not to do in business and frequently do the opposite.
Love this! I'm sorry to hear that you were belittled for your Graphic Design degree, but it's amazing to see how it has helped you get where you are today. Graphic design is not a throwaway degree. It takes hard work and dedication to build a career, and your success proves that. Keep proving the doubters wrong and never lose your metal 🤘 😊
Way to persevere and show everyone what you are made of!
I love your post and congratulations on your career journey. You definitely earned your resume. PS Florida is a great state.
LIFE HACK - How we react to others actions/ words against us will say more about our future than anything else. Will you respond to grow or to prove them right?
Love this! Happy to see all your success. 👏🏻👏🏻
🤘🏼🤓🤘🏼 Rock on my friend! You are one bad a$$ woman and an incredible leader. Anyone who ever had the pleasure working for and with you can attest.
Love this!! You're inspirational!

1yLove this. Just when I thought I couldn’t like you anymore than I already do. I also did graphic design for the first 7 years at the casino. Have a TV & Video communication degree before I did my masters in managment. It has opened so many doors for me, I wouldn’t change a thing. Keep rocking Jenn 🙌
