I consider myself truly fortunate to have been invited to attend Evolution Equity Partners #presidentsforum during this week’s RSA Conference. Dennis Smith and Richard Seewald always curate unbelievable speakers and this year was no different with President Bill Clinton. Hearing from our leaders in turbulent times always carries incredible weight as many of us attempt to find ballast amidst increasing divisiveness. As a teenager finding my way in the 1990’s, Bill Clinton influenced and defined my passion for the political process, an appreciation of history and what it represented in present day, but most importantly the overriding theme of public-private partnerships and working together as people despite differences of opinion. It often feels like we’ve lost the ability to see each other as humans from the faceless formats of social media, deafening noise of entertainment news and greater problems equals better politics. The comment which resonated most with me and I’m sure many within the room, “anyone who tells you that you get more with subtraction and division versus addition and multiplication is wrong,” should be echoed more today by all of our leaders. #venturecapital #growthcapital #startup #scaleup #investmentbanking #privateequity #election2024 #politics #economy #leadership

We typically prioritize greater sales, higher profits, and the next big thing, but in doing so, we can be losing sight of what truly counts. 2 Timothy 3:1-5 (NIV) warns us about the perilous times of the last days, where people will be "lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God—having a form of godliness but denying its power." Let's take a moment to think. Are we genuinely forming deep connections? Are we nurturing connections with others, or are we only pursuing transactions and shallow engagements? I have to own that I have done this in the past as well as currently. I've pursued activity, more sales, and the attraction of financial success, only to discover that these things always come at a price at the end. No amount of money could make up for the gaps created by the moments I missed, the relationships I neglected, and the principles I compromised. It's time to put real relationships, integrity, and a life based on true values back at the forefront of our priorities. Rather than merely becoming busy, let's follow leaders who motivate us to be better. leaders who improve our values and enhance our lives rather than just their finances.
